So, people are excited about Justified, yeah? And I see people are excited, and I go look up the show, and I think to myself, "Self? you would perhaps like that show." And I see that Timothy Olyphant is the guy, and for the first time in probably two years, I see a name that I can't 100% place, and I don't go to IMDB.
So the show starts, and oh, right. Timothy Olyphant

(Also! A few minutes of Peter Greene who I've only seen as a gangster in The Black Donnellys. And now I will stop telling you about the actors and characters that I was thrilled to see, because I would just have to list them all.)
I've never lived in Kentucky, or coal-mining country, so I can't comment on quite how true-to-life the first episode is, but I have lived in the rural south, and there's a lot about this show which is familiar in a totally awesome way. This makes me happy in a way that another show about New York or LA never will, even though I've lived those places, too.
Did anyone else notice, when Raylon tells Devil to cuff his left hand and then cuff himself to Dewey through the wheel, he cuffs his right hand?
I didn't watch any of the promo bits for the upcoming episodes, but I did look at the IMDB page, so I have a vague idea of how much we're going to see each of the characters. I can say right now, though, that I'd be happy to see more of any of them, and I can't remember the last time that happened. Sons of Anarchy came close, so woohoo, FX!
There was something odd about Tim in the first episode. I remember one random-seeming gesture he made, and I didn't have any sense of what his story was, unlike everyone else in the cast. I can't say I'm concerned that the random my-age-ish white male in the cast doesn't have a clear storyline. I'll be curious to see what, if anything, they do with the sniper thing. (Former) sniper has got to be right behind doctor, lawyer, cop, and CSI/squint in terms of popularity for character descriptions.
I really should watch Deadwood someday.
