I meant to get back to this Three Weeks for Dreamwidth thing way before now. While, on the one hand, I am 100% in favor of more content on Dreamwidth, on the other hand, I'm struggling with it because it seems almost punitive in it's execution. This may be because I just haven't happened to see people pimping it on LJ (where I am) or other journal services/websites/whatever (where I'm not). Maybe people are, and I've just missed it.

I prefer to think of it as a marketing opportunity (hey, go look at this awesome thing, but you can only see it here for now) and it's coming off as a cool-kids celebration (hey, look at this awesome thing that subset_x knew about three weeks ago) where only the people who are already in the club know about it.

Maybe I'm just grumpy. I'm probably just grumpy.

I guess this serves as a belated pimping, of the kind that I wish I'd already seen from the nebulous "they" all over the internet - DW's threeweeks tag on the Latest Things page and then there's three_weeks_for_dw.

One thing that I'm not conflicted about is pimping random_fic_is_random's All Purpose, Pan Fandom, Three Weeks for Dreamwidth Anon Kink Meme!!. Maybe because it's anon? I don't know. It doesn't so much feel to me like keeping secrets if no one can claim anything, even though in practice, it is exactly the same thing.

I've had the same problem. I don't mind not actively pimping something on lj, but I don't like the idea of keeping it from my flist. Even if just in the practical sense of no one is going to comment 3 weeks later. I've seen some people say that they're simply going to turn off comments on lj for 3 weeks? That I like.

I'm not in any danger of creating destination content in the next month, so it's sort of moot for me at the level that I'm concerned about, but yes, I'd much rather funnel the conversation over here (and the pageloads away from LJ) than create a temporary box of some sort.

I'm sort of conflicted about LJ/DW still in general, though. I used to have comments turned off on LJ, but I'm still doing LJ support, and I felt awkward about people visiting my journal and seeing all those links referring off-site while I was doing that. I think maybe the solution is to set my LJ default to friends only/comments on DW for random entries, and then start leaving links there to fic here, should I ever write anything again. Blargh.

But! I bought cat toys for Sammy's sort-of-birthday tomorrow, and I've had some ice cream, so I am feeling less at odds with the world now.

yeah, I hate all the LJ/DW animosity, because I want to support Dreamwidth but it's hard to know how, sometimes. I have a fairly healthy circle here, but I don't want to antagonize everybody that's left on LJ just the same. I've been contemplating the friends only solution too, and I find that leaving links to fic works fine for me. But it's all so complicated! Oh, fandom.

Yay, ice cream. It makes me really sad that you don't appreciate the appeal of Paul Walker by the way. Is it because he's not that good an actor? Because that's not important.:)

It's not like I dislike Paul Walker. There just comes a point in every fangirl's life where there are only so many hours in a day, and sometimes you have to prioritize who you're going to stare at. If I ever had a phase where I was into tousled blondish surfer types, which I don't think I did, it's been over for a long time.
