Declan Bennett - "Love Wins" Luckily, I've never been one to let not knowing the lyrics stop me from liking a song. Declan's in the American Idiot ensemble, and I think I've mentioned before that he has a solo singer-songwriter thing going on. Uh, and he used to be in a boy band of some sort in the UK, unless I'm mixing my stories up. Can't be bothered to google at the moment.

ANYway, I really like that song. There's a slightly more intelligible version from an outdoor concert but it's missing the first few seconds.

(Also, in that first video, check out Chase Peacock, the one who's channeling Honda Civic Tour-era Brendon Urie, but with an awkward blond stripe in his hair. I'm assuming that's less wonky looking in person and/or daylight.)
I'm still a little bit more obsessed with Eminem's "Love the Way You Lie" and Ke$ha's "Your Love is my Drug" than I'm comfortable with, but my current favorite thing that's getting played on pop radio is Sara Bareilles's King of Anything.
Stuff that I do not love so much, but I'm giving another chance:

I'm not sure why I didn't realize that "Billionaire" is by Travie McCoy. I can totally hear him now, but I spent a lot of time switching stations when it came on. I blame that on the hook.

Also didn't realize that "If I Had You" was Adam Lambert, but I can't remember if that's the song that I heard on the radio that I thought might be him.
Despite the fact that I do not like Enrique Iglesias, I would like to like "I Like It" except that it seems to lead off with convincing a girl to cheat on her boyfriend. Maybe they're just dancing. I haven't bothered to pay attention to the rest of the lyrics.
Empire State of Mind (322 days), Party in the U.S.A. (212 days), and Tik Tok (205 days) are still in the top 100 mp3 downloads. Mad World from Donnie Darko is at #62 this whatever-time-period they're using.
I'm not actually listening to any Mike Doughty today (although it's likely I will if I drive anywhere for more than 15 minutes) but he's tweeted/quoted my favorite thing on the internet so far today: As I write, remembering what David Simon said on expositing facets of New Orleans culture: "Everybody has Google, they can look it up."

Which is actually to say, good job, David Simon. I assume Treme (which I didn't watch - should I get on that?) is the context.

(How is it that I didn't have a generic "music" tag before? Well, I do now.)
