healingmirth: Delahoy from the Unusuals, unimpressed (unusuals - delahoy)
It was so humid this week. So. Humid. After taking a semi principled stand against running the air conditioning, I caved on Monday when sweat literally would not evaporate. Volleyball two days in a row was... not hellish, but I also couldn't pass the ball without it skidding right off whatever body part contacted it.

Now, though, things seem pretty okay! And I know that the a/c works.

Once Adventures in Air Conditioning were over and I went back to open (screened) windows and doors, the Loud Kitten went over the porch railing to the ground 15 feet below - accidentally I presume, from the noise of it. He's fine now, though he and I were equally stunned and slightly panicky for 15 minutes afterwards. So, keeping that door shut for a while.

Livejournal seems to have changed something to truncate the visible text of links after around 20 characters, I presume in posts made with the Rich Text editor. I'm not going to go comment on all the posts on my flist just now, mostly because it's all community posts and I don't really know the people, but if you're still posting to LJ, heads up that you might want to doublecheck your finished post.. User-side problem, not poster-side, but still something to be aware of!

ETA: seems to only be in effect on friends page view, not individual post view, and I can't see anything in the entry code causing it, or any boxes to tick to prevent it. Bleh. Dunno if it's the case on the new fancy feed as well, as my browser hates it.

ETA2: Apparently a mobile responsive display issue! Sometimes I do remember to check support requests when things get broken.

Anna Todd, who's the one who wrote the One Direction fic that became the book that is apparently becoming a movie, Fifty Shades style, was interviewed in this BBC documentary about pop music fandom, as evidence of both the global/internet nature of fandom, and the prominence of RPF fanworks. So far, so valid a choice. From what little I've read about her writing, I surmise that the stuff she writes is Not My Thing, but I assumed it was like, accidentally terrible. It may still be accidentally terrible? But some of what I would interpret as terribleness, she seems to have done on purpose.

"Everything I've written and most of the stuff that I read, it's AU - like alternate universe, so it's not really inspired by the band, like, none of my characters have the same personalities as actual members of One Direction."

Which.

I mean, that's a valid choice, I guess. One that has been used to good effect, sparingly, by other authors. (Is it safe to assume that the imaginary dudes she is writing still resemble the actual dudes?) But it's the exact opposite of what I would look for in an AU fic, and not what AU typically means without other qualifiers. Like OOC. Or Mirrorverse. Is that what AU means on Wattpad? My name is pastede on yay?
