Seriously. If I had to pick someone else to be when I grow up? Would completely be Emma Thompson. Without the celebrity and the acting even. I just think she's that awesome. They kept cutting to her while people were walking up to the stage to accept, and she looked so genuinely happy for everyone. When Sally Hawkins (Happy-Go-Lucky) was falling apart on stage while trying to accept her award, Emma offered to, like, come up and hold her hand. Just so graceful.
Favorite moment:
Tracey Morgan, accepting the Golden Globe for 30 Rock, Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy: "Tina Fey and I had an agreement, that if Barack Obama won, I would speak for the show from now on. Welcome to post-racial America. I am the face of post-racial America!"
In other Golden Globe news, Ricky Gervais went up on stage with what I presume was a pint, because it was an awfully large glass for straight liquor. I expect someone will have a video of his introductory movie bit up on youtube shortly. Also? Don Cheadle, pretty awesome.
Best (poised) acceptance speech of the night? Tina Fey for best actress. Close second?
Colin Farrell? (Still smoking hot, and definitely rocking the poetic artist/Irishness). Tom Wilkinson, Kate Winslet (x2!) and Sally Hawkins tied for adorableness.
I haven't seen a normal movie in the theater, a miniseries, or anything on HBO in probably a year, (I saw The Dark Knight in IMAX this summer) and for no good reason. Maybe that'd be a good New Year's resolution, watch a movie a week.
On my catch-up list so far:
(and I feel better because I'm sure none of the movies have been in the Athens theater.)
In Bruges
Bernard and Doris
Happy-Go-Lucky
Slumdog Millionaire
Defiance
I also still need to watch John Adams, which I saw bits and pieces of over the holidays since I bought it for my dad.
And finally, great moments in WTF
part 1: Renee Zellweger's dress (Seriously. Did you look in a mirror?)
part 2: P. Diddy and Kate Beckinsale presenting together. Why?
