Pretty much everything I know about Swedish film, I learned from parodies, chiefly The Muppets. That said, I spent most of the time watching the first episode of the Kenneth Branagh Wallander thinking, "this is really, really Swedish." Good news/bad news, depending on your opinion on such things, I guess.
Also, somewhere it's described as "Existential detective Wallander..." and I get where they're going with that phrasing, but that sounds like it would be a hilariously different show.
