So...

Penny Arcade
I missed basically the first half of their Q&A because I got stuck outside the room after arriving late, but its not like I really needed to know their answer to every question, and I'm sure someone else will blog or youtube it anyway. Suffice it to say, they are funny in person as well.

Q: What's the story with the claw-shrimp?
A: Jerry (Tycho) says that the first three panels of that comic are an actual conversation. That he'd grown up eating crawdads, and that while "neither of us are qualified to discuss crustaceans," that he really did threaten to stab Mike (Gabe).

Q: What's going on with the Wizard Rap album?
A: "Who hasn't wanted to make a rap album based on Harry Potter?" Jerry asks, adding that it's not like he's created a whole alter-ego, with a house and everything... okay, maybe he has. His name is Gilgalad, and he's in Hufflepuff. The album will be named Hufflepuff Puff Pass.

Q: Why is there all this continuity in the comics lately?
A: There's nothing interesting going on in the gaming world, in a combination of post-Christmas game-release doldrums, and companies in general more tightly controlling of their...blah blah blah. Also, it seems like every time they introduce something as a non sequitor, (see: Cardboard Tube Samaurai, etc.) it takes on a life of its own.

In other news, they still have kids (and WTF, Mike seriously named his kid Gabe? Tell me that's not true); yes, people sue them, or try, from time to time; erm, and other things I forget.

I stood in line outside the Robot Chicken panel, but decided that not even Seth Green was worth fighting my way through rabid fans, so I went to the Marvel Animation panel instead, which was cool, if a little slick on the PR front, and generally quite corporate.

Wolverine
I feel like I need to list this, but I missed the beginning, and I'm not really a big enough Wolverine fan that I'm going to watch it anyway.

Hulk vs. ...Thor? Maybe?
Likewise, wasn't really paying attention. They've apparently made a bunch of direct-to-DVD animated movies, and they're doing quite well, and they'll continue to make them as long as there's money in it. This one is apparently a double feature, except I can't even remember who it is Hulk is fighting.

Marvel Super Hero Squad
They say this series is breaking new ground for Marvel. Not only is it intended to be "something okay for 4 year olds" but it's also the first "marvel universe" show (meaning that everything from asgard to x-men is fair game) and the first action-comedy series they've done. Episodes will feature both (unnamed at this point) comedy voiceover veterans and special guest stars.

It's focused on a team of Marvel Heroes (Iron Man (the leader), Wolverine, Hulk, Thor, Silver Surfer and...some other guy. Falcon, maybe. Anyway, this team, which came together for some to-be-explained-in-the-first-episode reason, and is fighting a team of super-villains (the Lethal Legion) lead by an itty-bitty precious Dr. Doom. Apparently Dr. Doom is very frustrated with the idiots he has working for him (Abomination, Mole Man, and others). The heroes call the Lethal Legion's hideout Villainville! Oh, kids.

Other recurring Marvel heroes include Captain America (who they said serves as a sort of team mentor), Reptyl, Ms. Marvel (SHIELD liaison who is no end of frustrated by the Hero Squad's hijinks). Their home base is a rented helicarrier because they needed something on short notice, and apparently they're pretty easy to crash...

And! Nerfherder (or possibly just one person from the band) did their theme song.

Iron Man Armored Adventures

Seems like pretty typical after-school kid fare. Tony Stark, Rhodey, Pepper and Happy are in high school. Adventure ensues. They showed the 4th episode, and there was a plot, and there were cartoony people and a hint at a larger arc, so whatever. I'm sure it was exactly what they meant to produce, but I'm just not their demo for it.

I might actually watch the Super Hero Squad one, though. Or at least record it for the next time I have to entertain a kid.

Torchwood

The Torchwood Panel consisted of director Euros Lyn, and Eve Myles, who plays Gwen Cooper.

I'll admit right off that I am not a big fan of Gwen. I think she had a believable character arc, and I'm sure Eve acted it well enough. I've just never been a fan of the role Gwen plays in the team, or the methods the writers gave her to work through her understandable issues at being thrown into the midst of the craziness. Eve claims that in the 5-episode series 3, that Gwen is a warrior and a protector, and I really hope I can buy into that.

That said, Eve is absolutely precious. I'd say that its impossible not to like her, except that I am a horrible sarcastic person, and I'm pretty sure she would get on my nerves, but she was really, really happy to be there, and just a darling about the whole thing.

On the working environment on set: "John farts a lot" Also, there are lots of pranks, that she declined to detail, and lots of "cheeky moments" - ditto.

She said that the first time she was on the hub set, she was overwhelmed to the point of tears, and said more than once that she's the proudest Welshwoman in the world to be playing a role in her native accent, set and produced in her city.

When someone asked what her favorite American sci-fi/fantasy show was, she said "Buffy" without even stopping to think about it, and then added, "James Marsters was sooooooo good." She then went on to talk about reading the script about the episode where he's introduced as Capt. John Hart. so you're handcuffed to Captain John... "That is so fine by me."

Someone else asked, now that Ianto has permanently moved up from being a teaboy, and Rhys is done just cooking dinner for Gwen, when's PC Andy going to show up again? Eve says that he's in Children of Earth, he's kind of a catalyst, and helps Gwen a lot, so hooray, Andy!

They coyly refused to address whether/how many people die in this series, so someone asked how many does times does jack die. (eve mock-counts to a whole bunch on her fingers, as if thinking) "A couple."

Yeah, cute like diabetic coma sweet, but she's clearly so thrilled by what she does, you can't help but smile.
