I have listened to the OBC recording of American Idiot... a lot, lately. In my half-assed quest to avoid plastic, packaging, and exorbitant shipping distances, I've been pretty good about buying mp3s lately rather than CDs, but sometimes I just want to own the disc(s) still. Sorry, Earth. I was very excited the day that the package arrived, and listened to it with enough focus that I was about 30 minutes late to volleyball. I think I could listen to the minute and a half of "Before the Lobotomy" over and over, sort of forever, but I've been trying to ration it.

I also now have fic cravings. The good news is, I have something to nominate for Yuletide this year! The bad news is, I will probably attempt to write at least two of these ideas between now and then, and give up halfway through. There will be more about this later, I'm sure.

Last week also saw Green Day Earth Day, or perhaps Earth Day Green Day on fuse. This turned out to be 24 hours, give or take, of Green Day programming, most of it from previous album releases, with a commercial every once in a while for the Green Day - Natural Resources Defence Council collaboration. Good luck with that, but I'm past the age where celebrities are going to shape which nonprofits I support.

I seriously think that the last Green Day video I had watched (the new version of 21 Guns doesn't count) might have been Basket Case in like 1995, before I went away to college and kissed cable TV goodbye for ten years. So I spent a good chunk of time watching Green Day videos, and I must say how much I enjoy watching Billie Joe Armstrong jump around on stage, still. (I am, however, confused that Jesus of Suburbia is the #1 on the Green Day countdown? Maybe it gets bonus points for length, because that is an effing long song. It's a short film, not a video.) I blame the fact that Good Riddance was on the countdown twice.

In decidedly non-Green Day news, I am going to assume that you are all are familiar with The Dan Band. They were funny and gave me a chance to sing along to pop music from the 80s (and maybe early 90s? When was Wilson Phillips?) again. Oh, and Lady. Was that the 70s? Three decades of music for the price of one!

When I started drafting this entry, a long time ago, that video of Matt Doyle singing "With You" was here, which was what made me thing of The Dan Band. I think I'm going to go watch it again now. I really dislike drizzly days.

I'd also like to take this opportunity to say OHMIGOD do I hate YouTube's redesign. I hadn't tried to search for anything until recently, and somehow I had not noticed that I hate the individual vido pages. It must be better for something, but I miss the old ones. And I ate too many Twizzlers yesterday. I might be ready to admit that any Twizzlers is too many.
