Jun. 13th, 2010 04:22 pmI don't know what I dreamed about last night, but the one thing I remember with perfect clarity was that I had a keyboard with multiple E keys, and it made perfect sense at the time, what with it being the most common vowel - which I only assume to be true because of years of watching Wheel of Fortune as a kid. There was one E in the usual place, and one on the home row between D and F, and one op the upper right next to the P.
Still watching Oz, and season three did not quite live up to expectations. It might be on me that I just didn't connect to some of the major storylines; I don't know. There are still moments when I say yes, this! But then there are huge swaths where I just don't care.
Ryan O'Reily's schemes seemed like they were on an upswing last season. I wanted to know which way things were going to go with him, once his brother was in the mix, and I've got to say that I'm disappointed in his lack of vision, like he's become mediocre. Like, when he first showed up, it felt like he was having fun manipulating the players in Em City, and I've got to wonder if having a CO more-or-less on his side took away from that. Either that or he does his best work when he's high out of his mind. Not only do I not see the subtle positioning for power, indications that he's protecting his brother are few and far between too, and I'm having a really hard time making that jive with his confession. It wasn't until the season finale that Ryan's love for his brother seemed to resurface from what looked like apathy and detachment and a general frustration as opposed to a caretaker one.
Also, I hate Beecher's beard this season. I loved his pre-kids Season 2 axe-murderer beard, but this one's just annoying. Also, the lack of mustache bugs me, I think. This one makes him look like Wolverine a little (or whatisname, the brother whose name I'm completely blanking on) which would be hilarious if that'd been intentional when he got out of the hospital ward.
I don't have any idea what's going on with the Latino dude whose family was slowly abandoning him. I don't know if he was supposed to illustrate something, and what could have been a great (in the horrible, devious way) arc of getting the audience to empathize with the guy who raped the warden's daughter 1) fell flat as such, and 2) is apparently not true, according to the Season 4 preview? I don't know. The whole thing just left me cold.
Generally don't like any of the things going on with the COs this season. I get, now, that it's all a buildup to the race war, but I didn't ever feel the tension during the season.
Keller and Sister Peter-Marie, though, that was total gold, and fraught every step of the way.
I miss loony Adebisi. Either loony Adebisi.
Also, Shillinger's kid died way too soon. On the one hand, I'm glad that they resolved at least one storyline really I cared about, but on the other hand, I would have been totally okay with him surviving longer, unnoticed in the background, if they'd spent more time convincing me of other things that I didn't buy into.
See, I like the moments where I feel like I don't know what's going on, or at least that I might not know, and those were too few and far between. Onward to season four, though!
