I cut my hair today

By I cut my hair today, I mean I cut my hair, not I got my hair cut. I wouldn't say it's something I do with any regularity, but I've done it twice now, and I'm sort of okay with it.
Going to get my hair cut is something of a source of angst for me. In the past, I've gone to SuperCuts and the like from time to time, and while I can quantitatively tell the difference between a $15 haircut and a fancy salon cut, the fancy salon cut doesn't make me any happier. I have super-straight hair, and I prefer for it to be long enough to pull back into a ponytail or a bun without using a million clips or bobby pins, which means the fanciest possible end result is still pretty simple. It's not really much of a step from 10 minutes at SuperCuts to doing it myself, and I don't even have to pay for gas. Also, takes about 8 minutes less.
The first time I cut my own hair was at some point in the middle of grad school, I think, a couple years ago. If I remember correctly it was within the six months or so after I'd broken up with my boyfriend. I'm not sure whether I'm in a similar place right now, mentally, but I'd certainly let my hair grow way, way too long again.
The one thing I remember most was instantly thinking something like, "Why did I let my hair grow so long? I so totally prefer it short." And while I remember thinking that, somehow I managed to not get it cut for like two years, and it got super-duper long, way longer than I ought to have, and I thought it was fine. Until I hacked it off to shoulder-length just now, and instantly looked ten times better.
Someday I will learn. Perhaps I will even brave the salon to get it done properly next time.

Date: 2010-07-11 11:33 pm (UTC)I am rather fond of that tag, myself. I have the feeling that there are people who don't read tags on entries, but it still makes me feel like I don't have to spend the time disclaiming my complaints :)
