but my cat still loves me
Aug. 11th, 2010 04:36 pmStatistically, it is likely that the DVDs I have from Netflix at any given time are ones that I do not want to watch. This is not so much because I suck at picking movies, but because a lot of the time, I will get a DVD in the mail, not be in the mood to watch it, and then leave it sitting there for two months while I continue to not want to watch it, rather than send it back and get something I do want. And then it builds up into this *thing* and, well.
Until recently, the movies I had were Gamer (Gerard Butler plays a death-row convict, one of many, who's controlled by a gamer), The Men Who Stare At Goats (George Clooney as one of the titular men, Ewan McGregor as a reporter), and Milk. I am unsure whether this is better or worse than having three horrible romantic comedies, all of which I would probably have watched instantly.
I watched Gamer (surprisingly good, but the making-of interviews were both more interesting and more entertaining) and tried to watch Goats, but I just couldn't do it. I may try again later. Maybe I'm just in a mood today.
I am mentally unprepared to try watching Milk. I may need to warm up by watching the documentary about LeBron James's high school team to see if I'm capable of paying attention to anything.

Date: 2010-08-11 09:44 pm (UTC)We were totally like that with Netflix, which is why I have not turned it on again after our recent move. If it isn't the right thing, it just languishes.
The gf's mom has it too, and has given us the wii disc, so we watch the instant stuff all the time on their dime, and it is brilliant. Especially for TV series. I think I would pay for it again just for that (but luckily I don't have to).
In other notes, I was surprised by Gamer too! And Milk is, well. You're doing the right thing. It's a particular frame of mind movie. I dunno, we recently rented Goats. I saw it by myself in the theater and I came out feeling confused at why I didn't think it was funnier than it was. I had the same feeling the second time I watched it. It's a very strange, confusing, and still weirdly funny at times movie.

Date: 2010-08-11 10:13 pm (UTC)Why are the next three DVDs in my queue The Messenger, and Stop-Loss, and Good Night and Good Luck? Am totally bumping all the seasons of The West Wing up to the top.
I think my problem with Goats is the same love/hate relationship I have with the Coen brothers. I like my absurd more in the Monty Python area. Maybe it's just the accents.
(unrelated - Kent's update on the SYTYCD facebook thing today starts out "Wow this is ittttt!!!" Thanks, Kent, for reminding me that you're such a teenager.)
