SYTYCD Finale, blah, blah, blah.

Also, why so much talking?

Tonight was less about the performances and more about the choreography. The routines that I didn't like and/or didn't understand, I can't imagine that there's a dancer who could have made me care about them. This is good news, of course, for the finale, that I'm not wishing someone else was there to do the routines.

Lauren!
For me, Lauren's clearly in the lead after tonight, because she got 3 of 4 great routines. I think anyone could have been amazing in the pillow routine or the hip-hop, but honestly I think she did a much better job in the cha-cha than Kent or Robert would have if they'd danced it with Anya. Also, the lifts in that cha-cha were ridonkulous, and I don't think would have been possible with the others.

Was there a jive this season? Did Kent do it? I think Lauren would kill a jive.

Also, Mia is wrong about Lauren not having a bad routine. Remember the first week's hip hop? You guys all hated it. And again, WHY SO MUCH TALKING?

And why so much contradiction? WTB Daily Show staffers to compare some tape for me.

Kent is not as awesome as I'd hoped
...but when he's good, he's so, so, so good.

Kent's high point was definitely the Stacey Tookey routine, which I will probably say more about in the comment to someone else's post, somewhere, because I really want to rewatch it first.

Why was "All-Star" Lauren (can we give her a new name?) in the Bollywood number instead of Katheryn? Dear judges, shut up about Bollywood influences that have been explained, better and more often, by Nikul in the rehearsal packages. That you have apparently not been watching. I didn't like the routine as much as usual, but the execution was fine.

Robert is tall

Therefore, his legs are very long. He's sort of mesmerizing to watch

OH HAI Dee Caspary, making me think that you're Wade Robson in the audience. Dee Caspary, also reminding me I still haven't watched the beginning of last week's results. That was some masterful use of the prop, and gave me hope for Robert that I didn't have after the Jazz routine.

The part where I hate Jazz

Did not love Whip It. This is where it first occurred to me that I perhaps just don't like Jazz. And yes, Robert and Mark look too much alike.

Boogie Feet, so much better than Hip to be Square. Concluded: I just don't like Jazz. I feel like they should compare that a dance recital routine. In fact, I'm pretty sure that the local dance school's recital routines are better than that.

Tonight's Jazz mostly makes me look forward to seeing routines tomorrow. Fail, fail, fail. Nice damning with faint praise, there, judges.

I am still shallow

Spencer Liff!! Favorite Broadway of the season. Faaaaaavorite. This edged out that workmen routine with Jose and Kent by merit of the fact that both people in the routine can dance. Also, Katheryn is forgiven for not being in the Bollywood number, because I'm really glad that Lauren didn't get to do her sexy librarian schtick.

Spencer also gets bonus points for creating a scenario wherein Shankman lays the smackdown on Nigel.

You know, I like Broadway, I do not like Tyce, I like Spencer Liff, and I do not like Jazz. So if we could just have Spencer do all the Broadway, and Tyce do all the Jazz, that would be much simpler for my brain.

Boys dancing with boys
I don't know everything, obviously, but I am a little surprised that I've never heard of this Malevos thing. It sounds like Argentine Tango for boys, though, and I approve of that.

They've been doing male/male routines all season, why did they suddenly need to throw in a fighting routine for the two boys in the finale? Nothing is ever going to be as good as the finale routine that Twitch and Joshua did, so stop trying to catch that lightning. One of the seasons had capoeira, right? I sort of remember the capoeira sort of sucking, too.

Solos!

Actually, the only thing I have to say about them is: Why so shirtless, Kent? (while I was typing notes up on my phone as I watched, phone autocorrected "shirtless" to "hairless" for me, which reminds me that I love Roberts vague unshavenness, including the fact that I can't remember the last time one of the male dancers didn't look like he waxes his chest.)

I miss Billy's solos.

I really don't care who wins SYTYCD Season... 7? But for good reasons, as opposed to how I didn't care who won American Idol this season.

This means that I agree with Nigel about something, so my head should be scheduled to explode shortly.
