I blame this partly on the fact that SYTYCD doesn't use the dancers' surnames, but: I just got an email advertising a chance to take a dance class with "Ricky Ubeda, winner of So You Think You Can Dance" and had zero idea who that was.

And speaking of SYTYCD, I've had several conversations with friends about the new format, and I come out of every one disgruntled with the changes. That said, I didn't really understand the announcement (which seemed to me like there were going to be dueling top 20s, which can't possibly be true given their constantly decreasing resources and timeslots)

Also, don't really care quite enough to go looking for more information. I think* I still love the show, but I'm fatigued. How do people who watch every season of Survivor or Amazing Race (or, IDK, The Bachelor) keep track of it all?

If you'd asked me last week, yes or no, whether I knew The Three Musketeers, I would probably have said yes. I'm finally watching The Musketeers this week, and nope! Never mind the fact that it took me like five minutes to come up with Aramis's name, minutes filled with me repeating "Athos, Porthos, and..." in my head, over and over again. Like, not a single thing has hit me with an oh-yeah or uh-no moment, neither plot nor characterization.

I tried watching the first episode a couple weeks ago, and it just wasn't working for me, but now I'm really enjoying it, and will probably finish the series this weekend. Is the fandom going to make me angry? The most kudos'd complete fic is Athos/OFC...

I am way behind on tonight's SYTYCD, but I have just yelled OH, FOR FUCK'S SAKE, TYCE followed shortly by OH MY GOD SHUT UP, NIGEL.

ETA:

And again, OH MY GOD, SHUT UP, NIGEL.

So I'm a million and a half years behind on everything, but I need someone to come talk to be about Emilio and Teddy's routine to Nightshift by the Commodores on SYTYCD tonight. Help. So adorable.

[livejournal.com profile] _sytycd_ is still hanging on by its fingernails. If you're watching live or live-ish tonight, come hang out in the discussion post for the last night of auditions. Please! :)

The nice thing about Dancing With the Stars is that it only takes me about an hour to watch a two-hour episode, because I fast forward through almost all the talking and half the dancing...

They added contemporary last season, and I missed the news until the first of three routines tonight which were... awful. Even the parts that were danced well were terrifyingly overwrought.

The woman who plays Mercedes on Glee (Amber something?) is on this season, and a good chunk of the original cast was in the audience to support her. Absolutely adorable. Made several times more adorable by the fact that she brought it with an amazing cha-cha.

Also, Snooki. So. At least she acknowledges that she was a hot mess, and seems to be slightly less so now.

One of the auditions (a good one!) on this past episode of SYTYCD was to Sara Bareilles's "Gravity", which in addition to being a song I love, is also the music for one of my favorite SYTYCD routines ever:

Kayla and Kupono - Gravity )

This also serves as your fair warning, newish people to the neighborhood: SYTYCD is back, and there will be a non-negligible quantity of blathering about that once we get to the top 20 in a couple weeks.

(And for non-newish people, I almost linked to the version with the rehearsal attached, but then I noticed Tyce judging was after it and LA LA LA I CANT HEAR YOU OVER THE SOUND OF HIS EGO.)

In addition to Evan Kasprzak and Alex Wong, if the Newsies The Musical cast list is to be believed, which I think it sort of has to be, Jess (Le Protto? I am pretty sure I have never heard or seen his last name before) has also joined the cast. I'm going to guess that the people who are just labeled "ensemble" may basically be filler for the larger stage at the Nederlander, which I am more excited about than the way I phrased that implies.
healingmirth: Coca-Cola bear with Yuletide text (yuletide)
Next year, I really want to try to remember to nominate something dance-ish for yuletide. There was an LXD nomination this year, but since I never watched past season 1, I have no idea who those people are. I still have Bourne's Swan Lake on DVD waiting to be watched. Still. But neither of those are quite what I'm on about, because I really am craving something a little more world-buildy.
healingmirth: deadpool, bemused, missing a chunk of his head (deadpool)
I'm still sleeping a lot, and not entirely when I plan to, and I'm a little worried that I might be ill, but almost equally willing to keep my head stuck in the sand about it. That's neither here nor there to the rest of the subjects in this post, but I felt like I should mention it, somewhere.
This is lovely, and makes me miss watching dance. Thought of You - Ryan Woodward ) I wish DWTS hadn't bored me so much this season, because I'm not even watching the Stars of Dance bits.
I find Hal Sparks to be very amusing, which is an opinion I mostly formed from watching I Love the 90s or whatever talking head thing he did on VH1. I had Hal Sparks: Charmageddon in my Netflix instant queue for some reason, and watched it tonight. The first half hour made me laugh harder than pretty much anything else in recent memory. The second half hour, still funny, but he gets a bit preachy and it loses its comedy edge.
Also available for instant viewing: Sports Night, The A-Team seasons 1-5, White Collar, and something else which I've forgotten, but was really important that I tell you all about when I first saw it listed.
I had sort of meant to cancel my Netflix account in protest around that whole Quikster mess, but then I forgot, and I don't know. I feel like I should cancel my DVD subscription, because I've had the same three DVDs for months, and I don't have time to watch the TV I'm DVRing already. And then I feel like I should cancel my instant viewing, because ditto. So now, its functioning as one of my many minor lazy taxes, things that I continue to pay for despite my better judgment because of lack of effort.
I had a really hard time with the Yuletide signup for some reason. Both the form, and the choices. IDEK, y'all.

the internet has done nothing but fill me with glee since I got home and started catching up on my reading page. I should maybe finish scrolling back, but no, I'm just going to make this its own post.

I just found out that Evan Kasprzak is in the cast of Newsies at the Paper Mill Playhouse, and I am So Excited OMG. If I didn't already have tickets for Saturday, I would totally have tickets for Saturday.
