Lady Gaga, bringing the IDEK

Remember that time when Fall Out Boy and Panic! at the Disco went on tour with Blink, and Brendon kept getting that one word wrong in Don't Stop Believing? Every time? (On purpose? I don't know.) Good times.
Right, so American Idol. Anyone else miss Simon being around to call performances self-indulgent?
However! I am really enjoying Jimmy Iovine (and company) being around to mentor this season, and tonight was a perfect example of why. Oh. My. Gosh. If there is any audience more terrifying than Lady Gaga in that makeup, in front of that white backdrop, I can't imagine what.
I really liked Jordin Sparks. I really like Lauren Alaina. I didn't watch the seasons that Carrie Underwood or Kelly Clarkson were on, so I don't know how the competed, but I generally (one exception noted below!) really enjoy women being good at things. Also, at least part of the reason that I really want Lauren to win is that I want her to remember how awesome she is, but at the same time I'm not sure it's ever a good idea to throw a 16-year-old into the music business. Too late now, I guess.
I have not been a fan of James Durbin most of this season on American Idol. Not only do I not think he has the strongest voice or the best performances, but I have also often violently disagreed with the judges, and really, really wondered what they were seeing or hearing in the studio that we weren't getting through the TV. This makes me sad, because he picked some songs (like Uprising, AKA the only Muse song that ever gets performed in the USA) songs that I wanted to love. There were still problems tonight, but at least I felt like it was because it was an authentic performance, not because he just isn't very good.
I am tired of Haley. She is a very talented singer, and I am still not interested in buying her record. (I am also not interested in buying Adele's record, but she is doing just fine without me.)
Also tired of Scottie, and I'm a little mad that the best thing he could have done tonight was sit still and keep his hands off the damn microphone, and he did that.
In related news, I am bewildered by the announcement that Paula Abdul is joining Simon on X-Factor. I also feel bad for Randy. Just me?
