healingmirth: Delahoy from the Unusuals, unimpressed (unusuals - delahoy)

reading the comments never ends well

So, apparently Aja (bookshop, yes? this is that Aja?) is the "fandom" reporter at the daily dot, whatever that means. And about ten minutes ago, I was prepared to be irate (hyperbole!) over one case of "I do not think that word means what you think it means" and some sloppy editing, but I have apparently been beaten to the punch of the entire irate (actual fact!) quota for the internet by the commenters on a different article.

I have to say, I am a little baffled by the number of people commenting on an article about One Direction tinhatting who are using their facebook logins to do so. Brave new world, good lord.

ETA: having read more of the comments, either someone posted talking points to come yell at Aja with, or their hivemind is epic

And also, welcome to the internet, person who commented "awkward i didnt even know this showed up on my fb feed omg"

I feel so old.

[livejournal.com profile] eleveninches (a pal of Aja) posted about the articles on her LJ in a "Oh kids, we've been there and done that" kind of way and also partly to mock Aja too for poking a big fandom and getting dog piled.

The comments there are hilarious too, consisting of many folks who've been around for a while and remember the insanity that was tinhatting in LoTrips & Wincest.

There's also some bemused horror expressed that the kids don't realise Tumblr is public and you can't really clutch your pearls and shriek invasions of privacy when someone lifts a quote from your publically posted words on the web! and that replying to things with a Facebook (which propsective employers will google and may well deny your employment depending on what they find) is so not a good idea.

*hands*

I genuinely thought kids these days were so much more internet savvy that the 1D fans appear to be!
