In the timehonored tradition of asking my flist before spamming the yuletide comm, anyone know what's up with this? It's probably support request bait, either because its broken, or changed and no longer documented correctly, but a bunch of y'all do more AO3 challenges than I do, more recently than last yuletide.

On the AO3 FAQ page for collections and challenges it still says
Is this collection currently unrevealed? - If a collection is set to be unrevealed, all works added to it will be hidden until they are revealed. On the author's dashboard, the work will be shown as a 'Mystery Work' with a link to the collection. To reveal the works in the collection, the moderator can simply edit the collection and change this setting.

I remember in years past, this was the case, but this year I'm not seeing mystery works on the pages of people I know to have written something. I'm seeing my fic on my works page when logged in, but it disappears rather than turning into a mystery work when logged out. Hrm.

ETA: answered and explained in comments, yes an intentional change.

ETA part two: thanks, autocorrect, for changing flist to flustered. Although probably also accurate this week!

If you look under "Gifts" of someone who's got a Yuletide story coming, you'll see it linked as "Mystery Work." There are some other circumstances where you see it that way, too. As long as you're logged in, though, your own story should show normally for you (though it doesn't show up under "Works" on your dashboard, which may or may not be a bug).

I noticed during the recent TW_FallHarvest thing that sometimes things showed up as mystery works elsewhere (like in someone else's bookmarks) when they were revealed in the collection, so I suspect bits of the code handling that are still a little buggy.

Well, for the panicky, they also show up under your assignments, even once they're posted. (But only if you were assigned them. Treats don't, which makes life a little more difficult.)

Hi, here via the DW network. o/ This kind of slipped into the big ~Return of the Filters~ release somewhat unnoticed, and the FAQ in question hasn't been updated yet. (Sorry! And also, good catch! /o\)

Under new features in the release, it says: "A dedicated page for a user's works in collections and challenges, including unrevealed and anonymous ones, for at-a-glance management and editing access, to be found at archiveofourown.org/users/YOURUSERNAME/works/collected"

We're still fiddling with the details, but basically this was easier, in the end, than trying to make sure an unrevealed and/or anon work would stay properly hidden in all possible configurations of other people visiting your works page/dashboard, and also wouldn't suddenly vanish in case it was backdated and thus not showing up on the dashboard, etc. etc. details. But basically there's a button saying "Works in Collections" towards the top right of a user's works page now, and it will have them all.

Sorry for the drive-by tl;dr, hope that helps!

Nobody should have to slog through old release notes for answers, that would be cruel and unusual. Glad to be of help!
