Jun. 7th, 2010 06:16 pmI saw a print ad for Top Shot yesterday (complete with tagline that implied to me that the winner would be an assassin - it was something like "many will compete but only one will be able to change history") and then forgot to look up what it was really about.
And according to Monkey See it's not especially compelling programming, because the type of people who are excellent marksmen are perhaps not the most entertaining people to watch, all by themselves.
Which, again, is why you should only have one sniper on your team. (Okay, Flashpoint, you can have two, but you actually use your snipers for shooting people, and not as character backstory.)
I listen to a lot - a LOT - of pop music on the radio, but I don't watch many videos, which is how I made it this long without realizing that Ke$ha has blond hair. This should not be important? And maybe it's dyed blond, I don't know, but still. I find this really, really confusing, to the point of disconcerting. It shouldn't be surprising, because she comes to radio by way of southern California and Nashville, which I think I knew? And it shouldn't matter, at any rate, but I tried to watch one of her videos just now, and it bordered on cognitive dissonance.
Also disconcerting, Wikipedia changed their page layout. It took me almost five seconds to find where they moved the search box!
The guy who directed the A-Team movie gave an interview, somewhere (I've lost the link since I copied this earlier) where he said,
"...if we were going to do this, it had to be smart and entertaining and it had to make you feel like you saw something that entertained the shit out of you. That was what I wanted to do and not walk out of the theater where you go ‘There goes 10 bucks.’"
To which I say, 1) good. and 2) at least they didn't make it in IMAX or 3D or something else where you would be out even more than $10 if they messed it up. I'm looking at you, Shrek.
I just realized that I forgot to say anything about "When I was 17" this week. Blond chick turned out to be someone from a season of American Idol that I never watched (Kimberley, maybe?), Evan was about as wooden as is to be expected, and Gabe was made of awesome, though he seemed uncomfortable being interviewed sometimes. Gabe in high school reminds me of everyone I had an ill-advised crush on in high school.
