healingmirth: young cat looking up at camera (damn cat)
I took a drive past the beach in town - where I purposely did not look for housing because I knew once I saw it, it would trump all my practical "I can walk to the train" type reasons for picking this place. It is, predictably, lovely. Also has two sand volleyball courts, which I did not know. I may have to buy a beach pass after all, even though summer's half over.

It rained today for the first day in a while, which is lovely for the plants and wildlife in general, and less lovely for the guys who were moving 12-foot sheets of drywall from one garage to another this afternoon.

Another consequence of the rain, I can't really see out of my windows because of all the water on the screens. I do enjoy having the screens outside the window, as that means Sammy's less likely to get tangled up in them and leave bug-sized holes, but there are definitely drawbacks.

In other window news, there's a fair amount of hullabaloo on my facebook recently about how air conditioning is killing the planet, so I presume there's been something in the media about it. I find it hard to believe that this is news, but I also find it hard to believe how little people know about efficiency, or, y'know, entropy. Also, it's not killing the planet any more than all those people driving around in their cars by themselves, but whatever.

Regardless of whether air conditioning is what's going to kill us all, or if it's what makes America great (or at least better than Spain in the 19th century), I do enjoy having the windows open when I can do so without dripping sweat indoors.

I flopped down on my bed to catch up on 3ish weeks of my /support filter, with the intention of maybe actually looking at some requests.

And then my cat flopped down across my legs while I was reading, and now I sort of want to put my head down and take a nap.

So, I have this laundry closet, with a stacked washer and dryer that are precisely the size of the closet. If I really wanted to, I could leave a box of detergent more-or-less on the floor to the side, but I don't want, so I usually leave the detergent propping the door open, as its slightly off-balance and tends to swing shut.

Opposite the laundry closet, which is at the top of the stairs outside the bedroom, there is a 5-foot section of wall, clear of the bedroom door, which is begging for a piece of furniture. What it has right now is my laundry basket sitting on the floor.

I swear I have seen some sort of clothes...thing, designed for laundry purposes, that was basically a waist-high cabinet large enough to have a good folding surface above, with bins underneath. For instance, something with either with giant hamper drawers, or tip-out bins, or something of the sort.

Imagine this thing ) but enclosed. Or this wood one ) which looks perfect, if it were taller - that one's just (inexplicably...) 27 inches tall, which is mid-thigh on me.

Searching on "laundry station" "wood(en) hamper" and "laundry cabinet" didn't scrounge up anything worthwhile. I think I'm going to hit up the unfinished furniture store tomorrow and go through their catalogs.
