Summary: Scenes from a summer, after the war
Notes: 1500 words. Not inconsistent with To lean on. Title is a purposeful rewording of the Green Day lyric that's been pinging around my head for months.

( They're sprawled in the grass in Tunny's back yard, right in the middle of what would be a pool, if they were rich. )

What's the word I'm looking for? Oh yeah, terrified.

So, I was sitting downstairs, minding my own business, when the door to the back yard made a noise more-or-less like the type of noise I would imagine to be made by an axe murderer running into it.

It is entirely possible that this is the noise made by the next door neighbor slamming their door with excessive force. It is also possible that it is the noise made by an excessively dumb wild animal trying to get to my cat, who was sitting on the window sill next to the door. I couldn't see anything when I looked out the window, and then my brain said "OH MY GOD WHAT ARE YOU DOING SITTING BY THE WINDOW WHEN THERE IS AN AXE MURDER OUT THERE!1!" so I went and sat on the second-story stairs for a while and responded to months-old messages on OkCupid.

It was perhaps a bad idea to have a cup of coffee at 9:30.
