I'm assuming/hoping that by this point anyone who wants a 750Words account has one - But! In case you're out of the loop/haven't heard/missed 750words and written, kitten taking over people's flists last year or whenever: 750 words is going to a purchased (rather than free) account model on May 1 info here. It'll still be donation-supported/free for folks who already have an account, which could be you if you register in the next few days.

It's basically a "just write" tool - and my experience with it is mostly that people who are more achievement-oriented than I am really liked it for a while. There's a 750words comm here where people were briefly sort of cheering each other on, but it's been dormant for over a year.

Where http://writtenkitten.net/ is all personal reward, assuming you like pictures of kittens, and http://writeordie.com/ is neutral-to-punitive, 750 words awards you badges for doing things like writing every day, writing at certain times of day, writing (typing) without pausing, etc.

I think there's some opt-in social aspect where you can follow specific people and see their progress, but I haven't bothered to read the faq, and I think it's for people who've financially supported the site, of which I am not yet one.
