in a possible sequel to how people kept writing modern day fic where you could just wander through airport security at will - is there actually cell phone service (somewhere, anywhere) that informs you of calls missed in the interim, when you power your phone back on? Because my phone doesn't do that, and has never done that.

Its not an option offered by any of the US cell phone networks, so far as I can tell. I'm guessing from its prevalence in fic that it might be common in the UK, but my googling wasn't being super helpful.

Strange. It's a default service in Turkey, you don't need to sign up for it or anything.

I'm in Britain, with a crappy old Nokia, and mine automatically tells me about missed calls, complete with number, time and date.

I'm pretty sure that "fascinating" isn't the right word, because it's a mobile network, but that's the word that keeps popping into my head. Mostly because 1) it would actually play hell with how I manage my cell phone usage (which is mainly to say, I turn my phone off when I want to avoid people who don't leave a message or text to let me know why they've called) and 2) it's such an obvious concept, and yet the US networks appear to be totally uninterested in offering it.
