I finally went to go see Captain America: The Winter Soldier yesterday, after delaying for no good reason except for a lot of bargaining with myself about things I was supposed to accomplish. Bookending the trip to the movies, I also caught up on, like, eight episodes of Agents of SHIELD. This was just in time, it appears, for next week's finale, so yay?

By some miracle, I was unspoiled for both, so: thank you, fandom!

Remains to be seen whether I will be Reading All the post-movie Things. I've got a couple of rec lists bookmarked, but I think MCU, like Teen Wolf, is just too big for me to bother trying to keep up with.

I have roughly the same problems with, or rather, the same lack of interest in, Agent Ward as I do with all of the dudes who are not played by James Spader on The Blacklist. (I have finally learned the last name, at least, of both Agent White Dudes. So that's progress.) It's not complicated. I just don't care. The connection here is simple. I have already heard these dudes' stories about a hundred times. The fact that they're presented with absolutely no nuance is not helping.

So twice now, in current canon and in video from the past, Coulson has been super concerned about this GH-whateverthenumberis treatment, and both times, I have decided, based on his general level of horror, that his response was to having harvested it from what was certainly intended to look like a sapient alien being being held in stasis or kept ticking in a vegetative state.

And both times, I feel, as the scene has progressed, it's been revealed to be straight up concern about the side effects.

Don't get me wrong, I am 100% in favor of not injecting one's friends and colleagues with alien distillates, but PARTICULARLY given that Coulson seems to have no idea where this non-human specimen came from, am I wrong to expect that he'd be a little bit horrified at past actions rather than worried about possible future effects?

In the conversation he has with Skye about it, the one where she's all, "well, I'm alive, so I'm not going to get all worked up about it," it really seemed to me that he was shielding her from the worst of the knowledge, the source, of what was done to them... but then I just don't know. Once Skye didn't care, I couldn't get a read on whether it just took the wind out of Coulson's sails or what.

Also, hey there Amy Acker. Good job being in everything, ever. I only watched the first season of Angel (ask me how I feel about Joss being willing to kill anyone off with no notice), so I only really know her from a bit of Dollhouse, and then the very beginning of her arc on Person of Interest. I haven't seen Joss's Much Ado, so I don't know how that worked out, but I have a really hard time getting invested in her as the love interest. Or the damsel in need of rescue.

I like the new guy? Antoine? Was frankly a little creeped out by his initial "suddenly you can't picture your life without them" comment to Simmons, but I'm enjoying him for his own sake, and for what he's bringing out of Fitz. Am also pleased that he doesn't seem to be part of HYDRA. Yet. Because, seriously, that's a lot of secrets, you guys.

I don't quite miss the beginning of the season, when it seemed like everyone had clear motives and good vs. evil and yadda yadda yadda, because a lot of it was poorly executed. I'd have loved a good artifact/bad guy of the week series, but that ship seems to have sailed.

I'm super excited that Hannibal will be back, and I hope that the people creating it continue to be excited about it, and continue to be awesome. I can't remember the last TV show that I watched as it aired, and part of that joy is catching up on the tweets from Bryan Fuller and Aaron Abrams at the commercial breaks.

Other than that, mostly watching a lot of playoff hockey. I know there was a point when I was watching Blackhawk games and caring who won, but I'm over it, even though I think I can still name most of the roster. (Nothing against y'all Chicago fen, go cheer your hearts out, but now that they've won the cup again, something in me just can't get excited about the possibility of a repeat.)

I'm now pulling for a Penguins/Kings Stanley Cup Final, no matter how improbable, with a Penguins/Canadiens ECF. I wouldn't be mad at the Habs making it to the final. Anything else, though (Ducks? Wild? Bruins?) I couldn't be less excited about. Rangers would be cool, but I just can't believe that's ever going to happen.
