So I don't read much real-person fic. If I do, its usually because its been written by someone whose writing I otherwise enjoy, and not because of the people being fictionalized.

Also, Bandom scares me.

But anyway, maybe this is a widespread phenomenon and I've just missed it, but what is the point of a RPF/S AU? Isn't that just... a story? Or are there seriously celebrities whose personalities are well enough known that the story is enriched by our underlying understanding of the character, despite their wholesale relocation to another life, so that the RPS is somehow better than a story thats written about two completely invented characters?

Maybe there's a larger readership for RPS than for original fic, so RPS is a more rewarding vehicle for creativity. Maybe people just need faces attached to their stories? I always liked the imagining part of reading.

ETA: Okay, yeah This right here is what I'm talking about. Not only is it Jared/Jensen RPS, but it's also priest!fic. So, in terms of mainstream acceptance, probably several types of wrong. And this is nothing against the author, or her vision - I'm not trying to be disrespectful of anything about what she chose to create, but as far as I'm concerned, you could totally just find-and-replace the names in the story, and it would still be awesome, powerful writing. Of course, I'm in no position to judge whether it's "better" or "worse" for being RPS.

...which also apparently features a supporting appearance by Chad Michael Murray and, presumably, other people? Jared's actual girlfriend? I have no idea, since the CW and I totally parted ways after Veronica Mars ceased to be.
