Star Trek! (yeah, me too...)

I wasn't planning on seeing Star Trek, but then there was a veritable flist explosion of squee, and I am weak. I was prepared to be more excited by the trailers (and I was! GI Joe! 9! Transformers! Matt Lauer Can Suck it Land of the Lost! (okay, maybe notsomuch that last one)

By some accident, I managed to be completely unspoiled for Star Trek. As in, I spent the first 5 minutes fascinated and somewhat confused. And also, crying. Heroic sacrifice! Way to get attached to characters in under 30 seconds, self. And no, I'm not talking about you, Cameron. I wasn't 100% sure who the characters were until they started talking.

I also didn't read any of the reviews, and I hadn't been to a movie in months and months until Wolverine, so I hadn't even seen the trailers except one on YouTube, forever ago. So, if I was supposed to know anything about the premise other than "they're younger" - I didn't.

Really, I can not say enough how much I was not intending to see this movie, but then I've got a reunion this weekend, and I figured it would give me something to talk about, if we ran out of conversation.

Now I'm thinking about going to see it again in IMAX.

So now I want, like, meta, and maybe some icons, but I am terrified of what I might find in the new Star Trek communities that are popping up. I want, like, awesome epic episode-type gen fic. Okay, maybe that's a lie. I think I'd read anything with Bones in it right now, but I'm sure that'll fade. But I can't remember the last time I thought something was so awesome that I was worried fandom would make it worse.

Dude, I totally teared up, too. There is no shame. Okay, maybe there's shame, but at least we can be ashamed together!

It was pretty fucking epic. If you find any good fic, be sure to post recs -- I'm a little nervous about venturing into fic myself.

I figure I'll give it at least a couple weeks for people to get the drabbles out of their system. I'll be sure to pass along anything worth reading, though. And will try to restrain myself from linking to anything that made my eyes bleed.

I totally intend to write meta about how Kirk/Spock is now like Fraser/RayK, but I haven't had time.

I need to finish big bang before I can get into a new fandom.

I want to see it on IMAX to. I wonder when ours will get it.

I'm not sure what the deal is with distribution for IMAX. The current engagements are for 2 weeks, at which point the prints get shipped off elsewhere, I guess. The most-local IMAX theater to where I live has it posted in coming attractions for June.

You could just fold your new fandom into Big Bang! Okay, maybe not.

I have restricted myself to pretty much the one community, over on LJ, because suddenly there are DOZENS of new ones and I'd rather not be overrun by the new fen, thanks :-P I've had good experiences with it, so far.

It's probably just as well. You know some people are going to post everything to 6 different comms until things die down, so it's spam^2.

Oh, I loved it so much! I've totally bought into nu-Trek in a big way, Spock/Uhura, and all.

I watch trek_news on LJ - it's a good way to find recs and meta and icons without having to wade too deeply into the crazy. And there is some crazy out there.

It was just all so clever! Sulu's a perfect example of that, that everyone in the audience was all "ha ha, funny line, nice reference there..." and then WAIT, WHAT?!?
