Jul. 16th, 2009 06:06 pmStill haven't seen the new Torchwood, and not going to see Harry Potter until the weekend. Not like I need to worry about spoilers for Harry Potter, but it's the principle of the thing.
So, I was watching Bon Cop, Bad Cop on Netflix.com, and it's being provided by a partnership with Starz, apparently? And so I click the "About Starz Play on Netflix" link, and the first sentence says this: Starz Play is a service that is incremental to the continually growing Netflix library available to watch instantly. That word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Well, regardless what they meant, the Netflix library for instant viewing is pretty horrible, really, so whatever they meant, this is a good thing. The selection's about what you'd expect from a cable channel partnership - Die Hard, Grosse Pointe Blank, The Ice Storm, Real Genius, and Spaceballs were at the top of the list.
Also available to watch instantly? Navy Seals and Hot Shots! Part Deux.
Anyway, back to Bon Cop, Bad Cop (which was awesome, and also made me wish I spoke any French, at all). I was trying to remember where I'd heard of it, and now I'm pretty sure I saw it in a mention of a fight scene/sex scene discussion. I have no idea who was doing the discussing, of course, but I think it was in a fic-writing context.
I watched Dogfight this afternoon, with River Phoenix and Lili Taylor (good - period drama-ish thing, set over one day in San Francisco before the Vietnam War) and then I watched Superbad. Most of my friends saw it in a preview at a geek convention - I was either shopping or sleeping off a hangover at the time - and spent the rest of the weekend calling one of the guys in our group McLovin. I am only now realizing how scarily accurate that was.
If I'm thinking about who I'd expect to get votes, I'm not at all surprised by the SYTYCD results tonight, though I wish Evan had been in the bottom two with Ade instead of Kupono :( Oh, Kupono. He made it about as far as Mark and Hok did, and that's probably his viewer niche, but he was stepping up to everything. Just goes to show you can't have one bad week. I'm totally going to miss his routines.
I wonder, if Randi had had a more personally challenging partner at the beginning, whether she would have made it farther in the top 10. I'm sure Evan's popularity with the girls was helping to keep her in the competition, but I'm also sure he was very willing to steer clear of her boundaries and worries, and then she might not have ran into such a roadblock with Kupono and the Paso Doble. Oh, well.
