Stargate Atlantis - The Prodigal
I am having a hard time finding the pattern or arc or anything in the remaining episodes of Atlantis. It just seems sort of drifty. Introducing the new evil/self-centered race, and the coalition or whatever, and then being all... I just don't know. I'd rather just have a bunch of random standalone someone gets taken hostage/threatened by and Act of God/technology stories to wind down.
Also, I am totally on board with the brilliance of Woolsey as the expedition leader? Including its potential for comedy, though I'm more fond of his personal and management quirks than I am of taking the "Woolsey doesn't know how to use the doors" route.
Ronon vs. bureaucracy. Round 2, I guess, if you count the part where they had to do those interviews. "I'm not good at writing." "I'm not good at talking either." And okay, here's another thing - we're assuming that not only does the entire human population of everywhere speak English, but they write it too.
Awesome: John and Rodney racing RC cars. Although, seriously, they should have built their own out of spare Atlantis parts. And Rodney would be mad at John for cheating when Rodney's car likes John better.
Lame: Teyla, warrior princess, being completely off guard by the stupid cars and then, apparently having lost all of her cat-like reflexes, complaining that she could have dropped the spawn. If she was wandering around the middle of nowhere, in those doubtless echoey halls, she totally should not have been surprised.
Michael/Teyla freaks me right the fuck out. Also, totally got Phantom of the Opera vibes off him. I'm not sure how I feel about Teyla across this episode. Clearly, she's not going to lead her whole life on edge as threatened momma bear, but I'm having a really hard time with her in the bookends with John and Rodney.
I was all ready to get worked up about the improbability of that kid staying silent through all that running around, and crying out... once... at an inopportune time. I'm not sure if hanging a lamp on it makes it better or worse.
Also, is there any rhyme or reason to the comms on Atlantis? My best guess is that there would be different channels? (senior staff, engineering, military, global?) My logic, let me show you it.
And finally, three cheers for the kickboxing gate tech! (Amelia Banks! Hooray Names!)
