I've been watching [livejournal.com profile] comment_fic and totally failing to participate, for no good reason. I finally decided to take a spin through the lonely prompts post, on the theory that even a bad day of fic is better than a lot of other things.

And because I have a horror of a giant html snafu, this is also my test playground for comment-ficage.

Due South - Fraser/RayK, on the trail - I can't even get *established relationship* Fraser out of his clothes in a single comment

Stargate: SG-1 Sam/Cam, rank. three sentence fic

Stargate: Atlantis, Rodney/Radek, better lab space three sentence fic

Apparently there is a Stargate kerfluffle about characters who may or may not be canonically gay. I'm really not tied into fandom discussions, but it seemed worth digging into a little.

It turns out, having dug, that I... really don't care. I mean, I care in the sense that I care that people might be writing narrowminded or wrongheaded things, but I really don't care about SGA canon. But I went to read Joe Mallozzi's blog entry about it anyway. Well, I skimmed it at least. The post is about romantic relationships, and lack thereof and shipping and whatever.

This was my favorite part (in emphasis, mine):

"As for Sheppard - I consider him an even bigger loner than Ronon, an incredibly tough nut to crack. If anyone was going to do it, I don’t think it would be someone who just walked into his life. Rather it would have to be someone he knew (and knew him well in turn), someone he had a history with. Teyla would have been a possibility but, alas, she has settled down with the babysitter of her child - Kanaan."

I am having a hard time finding the pattern or arc or anything in the remaining episodes of Atlantis. It just seems sort of drifty. Introducing the new evil/self-centered race, and the coalition or whatever, and then being all... I just don't know. I'd rather just have a bunch of random standalone someone gets taken hostage/threatened by and Act of God/technology stories to wind down.

Also, I am totally on board with the brilliance of Woolsey as the expedition leader? Including its potential for comedy, though I'm more fond of his personal and management quirks than I am of taking the "Woolsey doesn't know how to use the doors" route.

some of my favorites (so far - that's a lot of stories to read!) from this year's [livejournal.com profile] sg_rarepairings. I don't read much stargate fic lately, and I'm pretty sure this is the first thing I've read by these authors. As much as I love Rodney, I think I'm McShepped out for a while, so I was glad to find some variety.

gen, pre-ship and/or fluff
Champagne and Caviar by [livejournal.com profile] facetofcathy Carter/Sheppard, G. Pitch-perfect banter.

Statistical Improbabilities by [livejournal.com profile] beanpot Carter/McKay, PG. I would totally spoil my favorite thing about this story by mentioning it. Beyond that, Carter and McKay have an evening influenced by alternate universes.

Tell me what you want by [livejournal.com profile] wraithsinger Carter/McKay, PG-13. A return to the enormous but inappropriately expressed crush that Rodney used to have on Carter.

The trouble with Griks by [livejournal.com profile] world_of_blade Carter/Lorne, G. A mission results in an unpleasant addition to the Atlantis population.

As dreamers do by [livejournal.com profile] sardonicsmiley Lorne/Zelenka, PG. Date!fic.

angst
Still Running by [livejournal.com profile] bluflamingo Lorne/Sheppard, PG-13. Aftermath of Lorne and Sheppard being stranded off-world together, interspersed with some Lorne character study. I'm still looking for words that adequately describe this, but suffice it to say that it's really good. She's got a few other excellent Lorne/Sheppard fics at her lj, along with other stuff I haven't had a chance to read yet.

So... allegory for the United States as a superpower? Except rather than taking the time to hash out a discussion of the actual ethical complications of Earthlings' actions in Pegasus we got a clip show.

So instead of discussing the episode in any depth, I will instead say: Wait a second, how have I been watching this show for 5 seasons without realizing that Col. Sumner was T-1000? I can not even count how many times either the visit to Athos or shooting Sumner has been referenced in fic, and I had no idea who he was.

angry mob, featuring someone wielding an honest-to-goodness pitch fork = total win.

healingmirth: Michael Scott from The Office (US) as Carnac (carnac)
The Office is back! Actual proposal, not quite as awesome as fake proposal and real ring, but still, hooray!

How did I manage to miss due South when it was first on? Actually, I guess I was in college at the time, which was tied for not having cable as my lowest TV-watching time, but still. So awesome. I probably appreciate it more now though.

Joshua Jackson in Fringe. Still. Grumpy McFrownsalot, not so much, but maybe she'll grow on me.

Stargate: Atlantis what with its new (maybe) villain, dramatic exploding things, and competent Zelenka saving the/someone's day. And Woolsey's insistence on not having the entire senior staff traipse off together somewhere. Of course, that just means that they're all going to have to save themselves individually.
