I am watching a lot of news, y'all. I never anticipated that [redacted]-year-old me would be consuming so much political commentary. Some, for sure, but this feels excessive.

I've got a date tonight, for which I have the lowest of possible expectations for a thing I agreed to do, but I am hopeful the food will be good and his half of the conversation will be entertaining. It is a million percent humid and sunny and warmish, and so I sort of want to wear a dress, but I also dont want to be the girl wearing a dress on a casual first date and why must everything be so complicated.

I'm watching the Penguins game (or, I was until my mom called, so now I'm way behind on the game, and trying to figure out whether I want to watch the third period or switch to Sharks/Kings in a second here) so have some hockey recs. Actually, this is pretty much all my hockey recs, except for stuff that I bookmarked without comment that I now can't remember anything about from the summary and tags. Definitely should have bookmarked more things...

This week has been a lot. Today looks better? It's starting on a good note, anyway. Slept well, woke up and had home fries and eggs for breakfast, and then the other half of a tiny chocolate cake while watching the Rose Parade.

The kitten has done himself an injury. He fell a couple weeks ago, from a height too low for him to right himself before landing, and he's been limping intermittently and profoundly, but very briefly, since. ( he's basically okay, but veterinary details behind the cut )

The vet's advice was "try to limit his jumping," and then she said "yeah, I know," and shrugged.

And now I'm getting ready to watch the Winter Classic, about which my only opinion so far is that I like Alex Ovechkin's hair.

I started reading Dezinformatsiya (the spy AU) this morning, and I'm going to go back to it, but I was sort of confused by how abrupt Sid and Geno's first meeting was.

Also on deck, And Never Been Kissed is finished! I read the first four chapters as they were posted, and then fell off last week. But soon!

Where has the time gone? I spent most of Christmas day baking and watching Peter Pan Live (on DVD) and teaching my mother how to use youtube, and then I spent all day yesterday with a friend from high school, so now it's been like 72 hours, and I've read maybe 15 yuletide stories. In like 3 1/2 fandoms. I haven't even finished reading the stories in fandoms I requested!

fancake and I am so in love. I need to go through my bookmarks (why am I so avoidant about tagging on pinbiard, whyyyyyy) to see what I can contribute, because seriously. High stakes avoidance and miscommunication. Turned up to eleven. Sometimes with a side of friends-to-lovers. So good.

Uh... what else. Hannibal is So Good. Has everyone else told you that Hannibal is So Good? Probably. I not even the tiniest bit interested in fan works other than meta yet, but I feel like it's approaching. I spent most of last night's episode So Angry at a number of characters, but in the good way, where it was because I cared and I can't wait to see how things resolve.

For whatever reason (societal habituation to violence, how ya doin'?), there's only been one episode of Hannibal that even remotely freaked me out, but I read the descriptions - not even particularly specific ones - of some creepypasta thingers, and I had such a nightmare after, omg.

I have so much fic queued up to read, but so little attention for it. A Saturday or two ago, I suddenly realized that I was partway through three entirely different fics, all of which I cared about, because I kept taking a break to do chores and forgetting.

Oh hey there Kris Letang. Hey there, Kris Letang's hair. So glad he's back playing, for the obvious reasons, but also the shallow ones.

I feel like every time I post its with some comment about the haphazard nature of my posting, or an apology for... whatever. I'm not sure whether its worth curbing the apologies, since clearly the other side of the equation isn't going anywhere. I'm still clinging to a largely imagined sense of community.

Anyway, this fic is great. If you're already in Teen Wolf fandom, you probably already know that otter's stuff is great. No spoilers, 3b or otherwise.

The child is dirty and huge-eyed and streaked with mysterious blood. It's wearing something filthy that could be generously described as a dress but looks more like a sheet, and it's all so Dickensian, it's almost over the top. It's obviously not even remotely human. Of course Stiles wants to take it home.

I wish I could write shorter things. I would write more of them! I love longfic, and occasionally have fic ideas that can only be served by longfic, but I really love scenes - slice of life, five things, all that stuff, and some of what I'm happiest with of what I've written are things that feel unresolved. Hopeful, almost always, but open-ended.

I sort of want to read more, or do some 2013 meme, or just do the general AO3 meme because I haven't yet, but the. there's

snowflake_challenge and some fandom-stocking stuff I still hope to write. And all the stuff that I didn't have time to sort before I had people over last night, so I piled it up and stashed it behind things...

Is it odd that I feel guilty about doing things that aren't reading Yuletide fic? Like, I bought myself Season 4 of Justified for Christmas because I only watched like the first four episodes, and I really want to catch up, because I really want to read fic and write fic and ship Tim Gutterson with everyone on the planet. But there is so much awesome Yuletide fic out there, and it seems like most of it has, like, one comment, and that makes me sad.

I went to rewatch the University of Rochester Yellowjackets video for 'You Belong to Me' because there's fic again this year. (And I've just noticed in looking it at that the description labels it as a parody instead of a cover. fine, whatever.) BUT! My point in posting that was that I hadn't connected that song to their appearance on The Sing Off last season. They were the ones who kept talking about their trip to Kenya and did Wavin' Flag and Wannabe and Lupe Fiasco's The Show Goes On

And somewhere in that brief youtube binge I actually watched a whole ad for Divergent, which is the scene where (presumably) Love Interest talks about his tattoo, how he wants to be All The Archetypes or whatever (brave and smart and...something, and something else and kind?). And I was thinking that I sort of wished it was a lady delivering that speech, but not if it meant sacrificing a female lead. So, I'll be here for all the genderswap AUs of that movie, I guess.

And now, recs! I feel like I'm reading realllllly slowly this year. Started in the T's yesterday and wrapped back to A, and I've got Breakfast Club fic opened to read when I get home later.

With a life to rebuild, and many challenges ahead, can Alex figure out who he is and what he really needs?

You guys! I always say I like AUs and crossovers, and all that, and whooooo boy is this an AU, so I'm sure it's probably not for everyone who loves Frontier Wolf for Frontier Wolf's sake, but it's such a solid story, I hope it'll pick up fans from elsewhere. It also makes me want all the Take Your Fandom to Work Day stories ever.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone cast Alexios (Alex, here) but either Paul Bettany or Laurence Fox would make an excellent Hilarion (Hilary). I'm mostly in the fandom for Hilarion, if I'm honest, but I love a good Alexios, and this is a good Alexios, making the best out of a bad situation, doing the right thing, trying to bring order to perceived chaos and then realizing that some of the chaos is actually character.

Sometimes it’s a bit of a struggle. Particularly with Rafa. Rafa, who used to look at him like he hung the stars in the sky.

After losing to Rafa at the World Tour Finals in 2013, Roger doesn't particularly want him in his locker room. But Rafa seems to have something on his mind.

This one depends a quite bit more on knowing the canon, as it were, but it's so lovely and full of feeling, and it's so rich with detail. Like, several hours later, out of nowhere, things keep coming back to me. And I definitely dreamed, in my nap, that Rafa messed up one of his routines and lost a match in absolutely mortifying fashion, and I might need to go back and read this again and possibly read All the Other Things where Rafa finds love, to get the (wholly imaginary!) dejected look on his ridiculous face out of my head.
