Post the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous.

so. many. abandoned. files )

it's cute how this folder says 'active WIP' )

And I dumped off two Mike/Jeff snippets onto AO3 the other day. From the "active" folder. So.

I really wish I could make myself write some of those Arthur/Eames ones. There are a whole lotta words in some of them, but it's been so long, argh.

I feel like I should combine this with some other form of talking-about-writing meme. Many, if not most, of those files have shown up in some past list meme.

Edit: wow, I found an wip old meme, which I had locked because I think I repurposed one of the story bits for yuletide, and I am... not sure where some of those files are anymore. So there's more than *waves hands* all this, somewhere.

A thought I had just now, regarding the AO3 favorite tag feature that I mentioned earlier. Now I'm curious which tags y'all have favorited! (Or which tags you *would* have favorited, except you only browse them with something
filtered out.)

Photos optional! Full disclosure optional! Commentary optional! Optional things optional!

(Posting via email, for screenshot uploading purposes, so editing in of links, alt text, etc. to come in a bit)

pics or it didn't happen, as the kids say )

I was trying to think if there's a freeform tag (alternate universe - coffeeshop, or what have you) which I love enough to scan through for the fandoms I recognize. I've definitely never bookmarked one, and actually I think I've only ever used a freeform tag sans fandom once - when I was trying to jog my memory recently for marriage of convenience recs.

I was also thinking about how I have thus far only favorited five tags. Could I fill it up? Not sure. Maybe, but I am also terrible at culling, so I'd rather add sparingly than have to kill a darling later.

Check me out with the many birds, one stone thing. This is what happens when one procrastinates long enough. Things converge!

[community profile] snowflake_challengeDay 7: In your own space, share your love for a trope, cliché, kink, motif, or theme. (More than one is okay, too.) Tell us about it, tell us why you love it, give us some examples and recs.

Also super belatedly for [personal profile] cathalin: how about talking about your favorite tropes/situations to put characters into and/or read about your favorite characters being placed in. What are they and why do you think you like them, or just any discussion of favorite tropes.

My absolute favorite thing is when characters are wrong. (A close second is characters being specifically awesome at things. Hey, guess what happens when you have characters with both talents and failings!)

Ideally, I like it when one or more characters are wrong, realize they are wrong, and admit they were wrong, and then fix it, but I'm willing to sacrifice one or more steps in that series. I had a thought this morning in the shower that the relevant analogy might be that it's intellectual hurt/comfort. I don't have any recs handy, but luckily it's pretty easy to find. I might find a few examples when I get to bookmarks in a minute here, but it's not the sort of thing that's as taggable as, say, soulbonding. (Another thing I love!)

These stories don't need to be shippy, although, let's be real, it is frequently shippy, and first-time shippy in particular as people are getting to know each other, but there's absolutely a space for it in established dynamics where one character has an experience or a realization and makes some really bad decisions in response. It means that I am more than usually patient with the trope that if they would just TALK TO EACH OTHER, everything would be fine, so long as they do eventually talk to each other.

Doesn't matter to me why they're wrong, but some options: working within different sets of cultural or societal norms; assumptions, either totally unfounded or based on past personal experience; eavesdropping goes awry; a character who has always had to rely on themselves failing to take advantage of group resources; one of the characters starts out as just a straight up uneducated jerk; one character misguidedly tries to protect another character.

Which is why The Librarians 1x05 ...and the Apple of Discord was not precisely to my taste.

I appreciate what they're doing with Ezekiel, I guess? vague spoilers for The Librarians 1x05-1x08 )
healingmirth: Coca-Cola bear with Yuletide text (yuletide)
Yuletide fic! I wrote three things!

I'd written three stories once before, when I wrote two stories for my recipient and then a treat for Elyn in one of those fandoms, but that was waaaaay back in 2009.

Breakfast Club, Breakfast Club, Vikings )

I threw a lot of words at a lot of things that I didn't post this year - a story or two for SS*BB; the aforementioned abandoned Yuletide fic attempts; an American Idiot fork-in-the-road AU that I don't think there's anyone left in the fandom to read; a few Arthur/Eames story ideas. I'm not sure that it was more unpublished words than any other year, but it was spread across fewer files. I didn't have a fandom that lead to thirty different plot bunnies.

AO3 word count for the year: 10244

Two (of three) ficlets for AELDWS, an attempt at stop-drop-howl that stopped and dropped before the porn, and three yuletide fics. Not my lowest count year - that was 2011, which was a giant pile of work-related stress.

I now have 74 works on AO3, and I think #75 is going to be the scenes from the proto-Smokin' Aces fic that I am still so excited that someone else wrote. *\o/* [personal profile] ponderosa *\o/*

[community profile] snowflake_challenge Day 1:

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator.

So, in addition to going around subscribing to people and asking them questions, I was going back through my journal's tags a bit and realized that I completely dropped the ball on the character list meme I posted in July so... maybe that'll be a couple of days. If you'd like to ask a December Thing and you're stuck coming up with what, give me some numbers from 1-15, and a scenario if you feel like it.

Also, there will be words (because let's be real, with me there are always words) but I'll also take prompts for photos, either from my Actual Fancy Camera or my phone (with the caveat that I don't put pictures of my face on the internet). Subject matter, genre, or random word prompts all welcome. (Did I ever take any of my pictures for my snapshot bingo card? Signs point to no.)

So ask me a thing! Wheeee.

Sitting in my living room, watching the afternoon sun stream through my... extraordinarily streaky front windows, past new cat, who is adorable and sort of a self-absorbed jerk, onto original cat, who sounds like he's chewing on some paper. He and the paper are the coffee table, which I think has a stack of bills on it. I'll get up and check that in a second.

But first!

hey look, a list of days in a month )

Questions/topics/prompts/fic/whatevers from non-subscribers or anonymice are welcome, though I'll likely restrict access to anything that contains what I consider to be identifying details.

ETA: also opening up the offer to random number prompts for a character meme I forgot to finish and photo prompts (subject, composition, whatever) with some sort of associated commentary

(and now, catching up on my flist. and maybe some TV. Friday! \o/)

(I should probably break out the Windex first, though.)

The voting for week one of the Arthur Eames Last Drabble Writer Standing is open. 19 ficlets (or drabbles if you're not picky about terminology) but math informs me that it's under 6000 words total. The vote is via google form because like 2/3 of the participants live on tumblr now. *shakes fist* TUMBLR!

Anyway, I was looking back at my challenge tag, and realized that I first posted that character list meme six months ago today. I'm pretty sure it's counterproductive to my actually completing a story, but it was fun, and I like doing fun things!

Character List Meme

1) Make a list of fifteen characters first, and keep it to yourself for the moment.

2) Ask your f-list to post questions in the comments. For example: "One, nine, and fifteen are chosen by a prophecy to save the world from four. Do they succeed?", "Under what circumstances might five and fourteen fall in love?", "Which character on the list would you most want on your side in a zombie invasion?"

3) After your f-list has stopped asking questions, round them up and answer them using the fifteen characters you selected beforehand, then post them.

I'm going to leave this open at least through the weekend. Please ask me something :) Or several somethings!

Despite my best efforts, my first swing at [livejournal.com profile] stop_drop_howl stopped and dropped decidedly short of porn when I realized that I didn't actually want to write Derek hooking up with Stiles of Right Now, but I had set the story very much Right Now, argh. Better luck next time.

to shake the devils from my mind (1907 words) by healingmirth
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Teen Wolf (TV)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Derek Hale/Stiles Stilinski
Characters: Derek Hale, Stiles Stilinski
Summary:

"You look tired," Derek says. Stiles smells like pure human exhaustion, like chemical stimulants and sweat. Derek's long past expecting him to be still, but Stiles's fidgets seem muffled, and he's blinking too often and rubbing at his temple with two fingers on his right hand. His left is clenched into a fist, but Derek can't see any reason for it. It makes him want to settle Stiles, to draw the tension out of his body, to hold his hands until they remember how they used to behave.

And now that that's over with, I'm going to finish up the things for Saturday's super sekrit character list meme over yonder, so there's still plenty of time to drop off a scenario.
