Well, this is certainly an entry.

I'd written three stories once before, when I wrote two stories for my recipient and then a treat for Elyn in one of those fandoms, but that was waaaaay back in 2009.

Scenes from a reunion
25 years is a long time. I'm looking at my own 20th this year, so it's not like I can't imagine how those things go, but. 25 years is a long time, and I didn't help myself any by throwing some of the more recent performances by Anthony Michael Hall into my canon review. (also, Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion, and Grosse Pointe Blank, because why not?)
There's actually a lot about this that I like, but it needed at least three more scenes, or a complete rewrite from the top, to take it to the genuinely shippy place. And there's this whole thing about why it is that John doesn't want to talk to Claire that I had to leave on the cutting room floor.
I very nearly had a "clean out your WIP folder" Yuletide treat season. There's a GK AU that I threw a bunch of words at for a bonus pinch hit list fic, and a couple other stories that I poked at reviving, before shaking the archive and guessing that someone else was at least hitting the vague outline of the stories. And then this, which started life as a few paragraphs of canon-era (or closer to canon-era) Breakfast Club fic.

Relationships: John Bender/Brian Johnson
Characters: John Bender, Brian Johnson
Additional Tags: Chance Meetings, Post-Canon, Yuletide Treat
Summary:
Three days before John Bender's 18th birthday, he disappears from Shermer, almost as if he'd never been there. Brian wasn't ready for him to go. Brian's never ready to let him go.
And one bonus ficlet for a recipient who came through the post-deadline pinch hit list:

Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Vikings (TV)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Characters: Ragnar Lothbrok, Athelstan (Vikings), Lagertha (Vikings), Bjorn (Vikings)
Additional Tags: Season/Series 01, Canon-Typical Violence, Minor Character Death, Probable anachronistic language, Yuletide Treat
Summary:
It was because the man had not carried an axe that he had died and Athelstan had lived.
I had basically just the idea of this fic in my wip folder, but season two totally abandoned the aspects of assimilation and culture that I was interested in poking at. When Destina's prompt came through, I sketched out what I could for a bonus gift, and gave up any expectation of canon review or historical research by keeping it short.
I threw a lot of words at a lot of things that I didn't post this year - a story or two for SS*BB; the aforementioned abandoned Yuletide fic attempts; an American Idiot fork-in-the-road AU that I don't think there's anyone left in the fandom to read; a few Arthur/Eames story ideas. I'm not sure that it was more unpublished words than any other year, but it was spread across fewer files. I didn't have a fandom that lead to thirty different plot bunnies.
AO3 word count for the year: 10244
Two (of three) ficlets for AELDWS, an attempt at stop-drop-howl that stopped and dropped before the porn, and three yuletide fics. Not my lowest count year - that was 2011, which was a giant pile of work-related stress.
I now have 74 works on AO3, and I think #75 is going to be the scenes from the proto-Smokin' Aces fic that I am still so excited that someone else wrote. *\o/*

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator.

Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Justified
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Relationships: Raylan Givens/Tim Gutterson
Characters: Raylan Givens, Tim Gutterson, Art Mullen
Additional Tags: Drinking
Summary:
Art makes a shooing motion towards the door. "Unless you are giving a deposition, and I pray to God that neither of you are called to try to be honest about it, I don't want to see you in this building, or anywhere else, until I have a chance to resolve this mess.
While I am not (so, so, so not) Elmore Leonard, I do really enjoy the prose around Justified. I like the dialogue, I like the points of view that people construct in fanworks. It's pretty rare that I have an idea of a story that I want to tell, which is too bad, because I think I could use the practice writing smaller. I'm still pleased with this, though, while also acknowledging that its fairly typical of what I write - a moment between two other things happening.

Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Teen Wolf (TV)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Relationships: Derek Hale/Stiles Stilinski
Additional Tags: Sleep Deprivation, mostly canon compliant, Flash Fic
Summary:
"You look tired," Derek says. Stiles smells like pure human exhaustion, like chemical stimulants and sweat. Derek's long past expecting him to be still, but Stiles's fidgets seem muffled, and he's blinking too often and rubbing at his temple with two fingers on his right hand. His left is clenched into a fist, but Derek can't see any reason for it. It makes him want to settle Stiles, to draw the tension out of his body, to hold his hands until they remember how they used to behave.
The theme for this year was definitely writing to a deadline. Even though I didn't get this to the porny place it needed to go, I went ahead and posted it on the 24-hour timeline. This could have been tagged as a missing scene from the nogitsune half of the Teen Wolf season, if I'd pinned it to a point in the season.

Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: American Idiot - Green Day/Armstrong
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Tunny (American Idiot), Will (American Idiot)
Summary:
scenes from a summer, after the war
Am I ever going to stop talking about American Idiot? Probably not. As a fannish love, it's never going to do great things for my writing, since it's always going to be stories about two (or three) twenty-something white dudes lazing around wasting their lives, but it is an endless source of moments like this fic contains.
