healingmirth: Puck from Glee making the L in gLee (Glee)

So, are any of you still watching Glee? I think I'm caught up now after a couple weeks of having been distracted by a shiny thing when it was on, but I predict that I'll fall behind again.

I just don't care about the characters, and it doesn't make me laugh, and... is there another reason to watch TV? Maybe if I had a chatting-around-the-water-cooler type job. I'm willing to write it off to just not being a teenager, I guess, but it's not like I have particularly evolved tastes in anything else.

Speaking of being a teenager -

I went to the AP Fall Ball show in New Haven a couple days ago. This is the same tour as the one with the surprise!slamdancing in Atlanta, but this time with 100% more The Academy Is...

The band links go to myspace, because I am l-a-z-y.

You Me At Six was just as charming and...unintentionally precious as they were in Atlanta. They're hugely popular in their native UK, apparently, so I wasn't surprised by the quality of their set. But, yeah. I'm old. I pretty much wanted to pat their heads and tell them they did a good job. Their occasional synchronized headbanging or hopping about (is it still pogoing when it's someone onstage doing the hopping?), also cute, in a not-at-all-punk-or-rock way.

I'm still not sure how I feel about The Secret Handshake. I'm still confused by how abruptly the songs end, but I can see them being big in (pre)teen-pop circles. It's fun music for a 20 minute set, or background music for a party or whatever. He does a cover of "I Wish" by Skee-Lo that completely ruins it, IMO, but he also does a cover of Miley's "Party in the USA" that is...exactly the same as the original? IDK, I haven't ever listened to Miley all that closely.

Set Your Goals bored me exactly as much as last time, but Toad's Place is wide and not very deep, the exact opposite of Masquerade in Atlanta, so I was maybe 10 people back from the stage and still had 15 or 20 people between me and the pit and didn't have to worry about surprise!crowd surfers appearing from behind me. This meant that I could actually watch the stage, instead. That didn't really improve the experience. The one exception was the fact that the guitar player stage left won my undying love by not appearing to actually pay attention to anything except playing his part, which means he pretty much ignored the preppie-hardcore-metal-rap-whatever going on to his right. I am pretty sure that the dude is not in the band, based on the one band picture I've seen, so it's possible that he's a tech or a replacement who really had to concentrate on playing new songs. Also? I have no idea whether he was onstage in Atlanta, because I couldn't see stage left without completely turning my back on the pit, which... no.

So, apparently everyone was there to see Mayday Parade. Mayday Parade is from Tallahassee, which is reason enough for me to hate them. Sorry, people from Tallahassee, it's nothing personal, it's just northern Florida. Their bass player has really awesome curly hair and a full beard, so I spent most of the time watching him and his flannel shirt. I think I'm immune to anything that bears a resemblance to southern rock, but they played a good set, and it seems like everyone in the audience knew all the words to every song. But, yeah, seriously. Everyone was there to see Mayday Parade, because half the crowd left after their set.

That was awesome for those of us who stayed for TAI's set, but not so great for TAI. Dear William Beckett, of the 10-foot limbs and mic stand flailing, spent most of the first song looking around cautiously to make sure he didn't destroy anything or bean anyone. Mike spent most of the set making faces at the sound guy, so I'm guessing there were guitar issues of some sort. He then moved on to making faces at Sisky. I could not care less about Michael Guy Chislett if I tried, so I have no idea what he was doing, and Sisky and The Butcher were mostly being blocked from view by someone since they are not 15 feet tall, but I'm sure they were awesome, wherever they were.

In conclusion, totally worth the $15 for the ticket and the hour of travel time to get there and back. I didn't even have to pay for parking, which is always nice. I should go to more shows, but I really need to invest in some earplugs if I'm going to.

Bailed on Glee... after the one with Kurt joining the football team, I think. I'd finally had enough. Basically, I was only in it for the songs, and those weren't good enough to keep me.
