healingmirth: Michael Esper, Will in American Idiot (Will - AI)
If I'd waited five minutes, this first thing could have been in the last entry. But then it would have been missing the second thing, which is also HEARTS IN MY EYES x1000.

Playbill.com interview with Michael Esper, Rebecca Naomi Jones, Stark Sands, and John Gallagher Jr.

When Michael talks about where he thinks his character goes from here, and what he hopes people take away from seeing the show? Oh, my heart.

Okay, seriously, I feel like I might spend a lot of time saying "I love so-and-so" with regards to characters or performers, but Oh My God do I love Michael Esper so much right now. (ETA: good job, fingers, of typing "like" there instead of "love" the first time.)

Fear my lack of segue:

Random video: Unintentional hilarity from the 80s: You and your Johnson, a way of life for over 50 years

My favorite thing that someone said on the internet today (in this case, one of my friends, on Facebook): "The captain has extinguished the "sequitur" light."

And one more old spice parody: Study like a scholar, scholar
I feel like there's been a lot of discussion (none of which I have read) about Lilith Fair's failure, or relevance, or what have you, this year.

I went to Lilith Fair in 1990-whatever. I don't remember anything about who was there except for Sarah McLachlan, and I didn't watch most of her set. I'm not entirely sure what I did, and there's a good chance that that was the summer of my driving to random festivals en route to other destinations, which meant I spent a lot of time wandering around alone. At least I was sober, because wow is that an invitation to disaster.

Anyway, Lilith fair. Apparently this year's lineup included Kelly Clarkson, Rihanna and Norah Jones, Ke$ha, Corinne Bailey Rae and Martina McBride, some or all of whom have dropped out because Lilith cancelled a bunch of dates.

It's not like I would have traveled anyway, but I'm tempted to go to either the New York or the Hartford date to see Indigo Girls or Sarah Bareilles. I'm not sure I could care less about seeing Sarah McLachlan sing.

Dancing! General thoughts:

Hahahaha Nigel didn't notice that Jose wasn't in the group routines.

Did Adam call someone (Toni?) Esme when he was critiquing Kent?

Spencer Liff is adorable, and I am shallow. Sorry.

sort of cool Fall Out Boy thing I do not love "From Now on We Are Enemies", but I do sort of love "Alpha Dog" and it always makes me happy to see bands doing cool things for their fans.

In other Wentz-related news, Ashlee Simpson is on the cover of Women's Health this month. I am not in the habit of reading Women's Health, so I don't know how often they actually have, y'know, healthy people on the cover, but my first reaction looking at the cover was "no." Bless her, but the first thing I think when I look at her is not "healthy" - actually, I'm pretty sure it's not in the top 10.

Video for Owl City, "Fireflies" which they've been playing a lot on one of the local pop stations. I sort of want to hate it on principle, sort of how I want to hate The Secret Handshake on principle, but I just can't. The video reminds me very much of Bolt's (Dominic Monaghan) post-military life in Wolverine: Origins, which was sort of my favorite part of the movie, except for the obvious.

SYTYCD tonight! and DWTS finale! Go Kelly Osbourne! (who will not win) and... uh, someone on SYTYCD. What are their names again?

Also, what promises to be an excellent episode of Sons of Anarchy, and NCIS, and live John Mayer concert on Fuse at 9. I haven't bought the CD yet, but I'm enjoying the first single.

Busy Busy, except for the part where none of this is necessary or productive.

healingmirth: Puck from Glee making the L in gLee (Glee)
So, are any of you still watching Glee? I think I'm caught up now after a couple weeks of having been distracted by a shiny thing when it was on, but I predict that I'll fall behind again.

I just don't care about the characters, and it doesn't make me laugh, and... is there another reason to watch TV? Maybe if I had a chatting-around-the-water-cooler type job. I'm willing to write it off to just not being a teenager, I guess, but it's not like I have particularly evolved tastes in anything else.

Speaking of being a teenager -

I went to the AP Fall Ball show in New Haven a couple days ago. This is the same tour as the one with the surprise!slamdancing in Atlanta, but this time with 100% more The Academy Is... world's least informative concert review, featuring bands you probably don't care about: You Me At Six, The Secret Handshake, Set Your Goals, Mayday Parade, and The Academy Is... )

In conclusion, totally worth the $15 for the ticket and the hour of travel time to get there and back. I didn't even have to pay for parking, which is always nice. I should go to more shows, but I really need to invest in some earplugs if I'm going to.

healingmirth: Neil Patrick Harris as Barney with a six-pack of beer (NPH)
So, I had a couple days worth of errands and meetings and Things to Do around my old apartment. Obviously the solution was to schedule that trip around concerts that I might want to go to. Even though the tours are going to be up here, like, next week.

It has been a loooooong time since I've been to see a band live, and longer than that since I've been to a show with a mosh pit. I don't have the faintest idea what the cool kids are calling it these days, but this was the first show I'd ever been to that had people slam-dancing rather than doing the kind of running-around/jumping/body-checking that I'm used to seeing in pits. I am completely at a loss for who thinks that windmilling your fists around is a good idea. Nothing that is a bit on The Simpsons is a good idea in real life.

The best part is that it was an all-ages show, and the headlining band had like 500 teenage girls there bouncing around and singing along.

Actually, the best part was sort of how there were only 10 guys in the pit, which really wasn't enough to sustain it, so it was sort of AAAAAAAARRRRGGGHHH!!!!1! FLAIL!! *pant* *wheeze* *pace* AAAAAAAAHHHHHH.

But mainly the point of this post is: "Hi! I'm back!"

I turned in my cable box and modem and cancelled the service to my apartment, finally. It's better to go back to there with the expectation of no internet than to be taunted by the amazingly slow service. Seriously, half a step up from dial-up. I tested. So, so bad.

So now I'm going to go catch the rest of the way up with Sons of Anarchy and SYTYCD Canada, and The Daily Show from this week, and whatever else I couldn't get the internet to cough up while I was stuck in Slowville.
