Is it sad that now when I see something and want to find out whether I saw what I thought I saw, the first thing I do is search on twitter? It's like wikipedia-lite. Its the worst idea ever.

I had a whole entry of stupid rambling whatever about the AMAs which were sort of horrible, but I watched them anyway. That's all behind the cut, but let's talk about what everyone's going to be talking about tomorrow, first.

I am not a huge fan of Adam Lambert. I like my music a little less theatrical, but I am all for a good performance. I'm not sure his closing act at the AMAs was... good? But it was certainly theatrical. It was also a prelude to bondage porn. It wasn't any more risque than your average Madonna performance, and certainly wasn't any weirder than Lady Gaga, but it did feature him shoving one of the (male) dancer's faces into his crotch, which the directors had apparently not planned for, since they first cut out the sound, then cut to a random wide-angle audience shot before returning.

I try to remember the days when we didn't have DVRs and Tivo and rewindable TV. We've been conditioned to not pay attention to things, I swear, because you can always rewind and watch it again. Except I can't, because I just have the same tv in this room that I've had since 1999. There's a DVD player, but it isn't plugged in. Oh, and a satellite tuner with the worlds least-useful program guide.

This thought brought to you by the fact that I have no idea why Kristen Bell was the co-presenter of whatever award Rascal Flatts won, or whether she said anything.

So, I watched the CMA awards a week or whatever ago, and spent most of the time wishing that they'd actually pick performers who could sing well live if everyone was in fact going to sing live.

So of course, I spent the first 8 minutes of the AMAs wishing that Janet wasn't lip-synching.

Janet Jackson's (8 minute?!? seriously?) opening number was painful, as was watching the audience's expression of polite interest throughout, but it was sort of neat to see Nico and Natallie from SYTYCD Canada. Nico? is still hot, for the record. Mark from season 4 was supposed to be there too, I think, but maybe he's just in the video? Or maybe I missed him because I was too busy staring at Nico. I totally didn't recognize him when he danced with Lady Gaga at the VMAs.

They let Pete Wentz out of his cage to introduce Daughtry. Not the last time that I wondered how the hell they pick presenters, and how many more-appropriate people said no. (@petewentz: We kinda agreed I my ama outfit is like the deathstar meets sex in the city. I figure those are my exact demographics.)

Adam Lambert in the audience (aisle seat, cause he's a star! sitting next to some blonde chick because...) looking absolutely fierce (in a suit, like a grown-up, PeteWentz) and nodding his head along to Shakira.

Keith Urban is still sort of awesome. (So's Brad Paisley, but he's not on this show)

I am pretty sure I didn't know that Kelly Clarkson sings Already Gone. Is that the goodbye song on SYTYCD this season? I never pay attention to those montages.

My most WTF presenter pairing of the night: Joe Perry and Snoop Dog.

Carrie Underwood's performance outfit bore a really striking resemblance to Carol Hannah's first look from her Project Runway collection. This was the thing that I searched for on twitter. The tweeters agree. the tweeters also agree that it was better in the original version, which did not feature Carrie's hotpants.

Lady Gaga continues to put on batshit insane shows. She was murdered at the VMAs, so for the AMAs she broke through some plate glass (or a reasonable facsimile) to get to her piano, which was then lit on fire, and then smashed a bunch of faux liquor bottles on the keys.

Perez Hilton rocked out to Jay-Z's Empire State of Mind.

Eminem, Michael Jackson, and TI were nominated for best Pop/Rock male. That's a head-scratcher. According to the voiceover during the credits, apparently nominations were determined by radio airplay and something else, which I guess explains how MJ made it in to categories.

I will refrain from commenting more specifically or at length on Jackson family WTFery.
