healingmirth: Coca-Cola bear with Yuletide text (yuletide)
[personal profile] healingmirth
I wouldn't say I'm done reading for Yuletide, precisely. There's a bunch of stuff that I put off for now because my canon memory is hazy at best and I want to get the most out of shorter fic. And other stuff that I knew I wasn't going to get through before the reveal anyway, and I sort of want to read the cap_ironman fics today, so.
I'm pretty sure anyone who's so inclined has already read these, but just in case!
(in hindsight, I just should have linked my bookmark page at AO3. Oh well)

Eddie Izzard - Standup Routines: Delicious by Black-Eyed Blues (newredshoes)
A meditation on trichinosis, the Northwest Passage, build-it-yourself furniture and buried secrets of the Second World War. What? It's true.
nothing I could possibly say would do this justice. go read it. right now.

Ever After: The Flight of the Queen by Rana Eros (ranalore)
Prince Henry: Is there anything you don't do?
Danielle de Barbarac: Fly.
Leonardo da Vinci: Then I shall have to make you wings.

lovely language, and a perfect companion to the movie

Love Actually: To Have Him Back by Yvi; Harry/Karen, Daniel, David
Just being in love is never enough. But without that, there would be no sense in trying, would there?
Impropriety by Miggy; David/Natalie, It's taking Natalie a while to adjust to being in the spotlight.
totally charming, pitch-perfect with their scenes in the movie

Grosse Pointe Blank: Complete Blank by rivkat; Debi Newberry/Martin Q Blank, Marcella
Martin is going to have a perfect wedding if it kills ... well, everyone but Debi. And Marcella and Bart.
perfect character voices, and Martin in particular sounds like another (excellent) scene in the movie

Young Guns: Gentlemen by Zoi no miko (zoi_no_miko); Dick Brewer/Doc Scurlock
Dick Brewer had his reasons for becoming a Regulator. Reasons that he wasn't about to share with the Ranch's newest member, until he discovered that Doc had reasons of his own.
To be perfectly honest, I saw this prompt come up on the pinch hit list, and I tried to rewatch the movie. I had to stop. It's possible that I transferred some of my love for The Young Riders to my memories of Young Guns. However! This story takes place before the train wreck of the movie, and it's lovely.

Cable and Deadpool The Cable & Deadpool Yuletide Special by David Hines (hradzka)
...summary? Is that like a recap page? Huh. Okay. I'm Deadpool, the Merc with a Mouth. You may remember me from such comics as "Deadpool," "Deadpool," and "Cable & Deadpool," and from my brief appearance in Wolverine's first solo movie, which for now makes me Marvel's latest license to print money -- thank you, Ryan Reynolds. Anyway, now I'm in a Yuletide story, so join me and my buddy Nate Summers, aka Cable, for wacky hijinks and reality-hopping adventure. Say hi to the fangirls, Nate.
"Wade? Who are you talking to?"

absolutely hilarious, a classic concept, fantastic Deadpool voice

10 Things I Hate About Youor love me not by solvent; Kat Stratford/Patrick Verona
Title from The Taming of the Shrew, Act 4, Scene III: "Love me or love me not, I like the cap, / And I will have it, or I will have none." Pure sugary fluff.
Everything you'd expect from Patrick visiting Kat at college in one perfect scene.

Four Weddings And A Funeral: nor no man ever loved by sophieisgod; Matthew/OMC He's the same age now that Gareth was when he died.
totally everything I could want for future!fic about Matthew. not gonna lie, I teared up a little.

Generation Kill: The Fisherman and the Merman, or The Time Brad Learned Mermen Were Real (and Hot!) by Signe (oxoniensis); Brad Colbert/Nate Fick
When Brad decided to become a fisherman, he took a two day hike, cut down a tree in the forest, dragged it home (okay, he borrowed a pony to help pull it — he's strong, not superman), and made a boat out of the tree.
I'll give you a moment to stop and think about that.

a fairy tale told by the best kind of snarky narrator

Fanboys: The Day Obi-Wan Kenobi Died by sithwitch13
August 5, 2000: a date which will live in infamy (to Star Wars fans). Zoe decides to organize a memorial of sorts. Zoe/Windows, though it's not the focus.
Again, this movie? Is not great. It has some hilarious moments, and then a lot of moments where it really drops the ball. However, Zoe (Kristen Bell) and Windows (Jay Baruchel) are a joy throughout, and I'm happy to see fic that they factor in, and this is a really satisfying coda to the movie.

Tin Man: A Waltz In 4/4 Time by afterism; Wyatt Cain/Glitch
On the subject of dancing.
If you love Cain/Glitch, or even if you have a vague idea who they are, this is really sweet.

I wrote The Parade (The Unusuals), and then December 14th (The Unusuals) and There are more things in heaven and earth, Harry, than are dreamt of in your philosophy. (The Irrefutable Truth About Demons) as treats.
I seem to be very much stuck in gen mode, in fiction as in life. It's not particularly emotionally satisfying, because I don't think I'm doing a great job of it, and it's much quieter writing, and it doesn't have the built-in audience that 'ship fic does. Yeah. Whatever.
