I finally got around to watching Stargate: Continuum, and I'm a little afraid to rewatch any old episodes, because I spent pretty much the entire movie mad at Michael Shanks, and I can't remember his performance in the show well enough to comment on whether he was always that much of a bitch.

And on a related note, I have never understood why he is always billed as "and Michael Shanks as Daniel Jackson" at the tail end of the credits.

So, the movie opens with the Introductory Sequence of Damn Near Every Secondary Character, which I could only hope had some sort of echo relating to timelines later. But nope! In the making-of, the director goes on about how proud he was of that opening sequence (single shot... ooh...) but it really served no purpose except to be all "hello, fans!" since the characters and the set are never seen again.

This is followed by Curiously Deep Thought Vala on the subject of Goa'uld extraction. I tend to blank out that she used to be Qetesh, and I much prefer her bluster with moments of vulnerability to that random spouting off about being freed from Goa'uld enslavement. I'm choosing to believe that was clumsy exposition for anyone who managed to watch this movie without ever having seen the series. However, I now have a hankering for Vala/whatever-Ba'al's-host's-name-is fic.

Jack seemed really out of place. Sort of grandfatherly. His fondness for cake was a lot more winning when that was, like, the one bright spot in his life. He looks too content now for it to play the same.

It's sad when I enjoy the making-of documentaries more than the actual movie.
