This week in LXD-land, they inexplicably went comic book style, and then turned Madd Chadd into an actual robot of some sort. Suffice it to say, after watching it, I was looking forward to leaving it behind and watching SYTYCD.

Nigel needs to lay off the World Cup analogies. Also, All-Star Game? You are taking some loooong walks for your one-off comments, dude. Though, that said WHAT UP, BRIAN MCCANN!?! Someone I watched in his rookie season is the All-Star MVP? That's, seriously, vanishingly unlikely, with how little baseball I watch.

HI KENT, ILU! ♥ I didn't 100% get the Damn Yankees number, like I felt there was context I was missing that would have made it better, but he danced it very well, and was charming and whatever. But the number with Adechike, I loved. Adechike reminds me of someone, and it bugs me every week. I forgot that, watching his contemporary, because I was actually paying attention to his performance. I think that's the best he's looked all season.

Both the ballroom routines tonight killed me, and not in the good way. I am not at all sure the judges watched the same routines I did, for this stage of the competition. It is possible that I am still jaded about the lack of Ballroom contestants this season. I felt, most of the night, that the competitors just didn't know some of the choreography. Billy tried, though, bless him, and did better than he did with hip-hop, at least.

The disco was sort of amazing, particularly since Katheryn and Robert only had 24 hours to work together. Even though all I see when I look at him now is Ken doll. Or cocker spaniel, with his head tilted like that.

Robert's contemporary routine had more than enough heart to overcome any technical flaws, if there had been any. I don't think there were any? And I was so worried that it was all going to be...just sad, but with the contrast in the middle, it was totally stunning. Travis hasn't had a dud yet this season, and I hope he keeps producing amazing things like that.

Jose's Broadway was 1) no, not that bad, and 2) yes, it wasn't typecasting for him and that is totally okay. I don't mind when choreographers create to the strengths of their dancers, and I'd expect it, in a professional context, but here it's about dancers proving they can do different things, not just comfortable things.

Having just watched Sports Night, the "Boogie Shoes" routine was unexpectedly hilarious. Lauren's fab, and I will be very disappointed (and not just because she's the lone female standing at this point) if she doesn't make the finals. And the Tahitian dance. What?!? She's clearly got a head (and a body) for new vocabularies of movement like no one else on the show this season.

Dominic and Jose had blue/pink sneakers in rehearsal just like Lauren and Billy did!

So, just so I'm getting this right: After he gets OMG SO TOTALLY HANDED A ROUTINE, Jose is also King Arthur, ruler of all Albion. I like Jose, I do, but I really want to punch Nigel in the neck about his favoritism.

(ETA - Also, I forgot to mention that it was driving me crazy that I know I'd seen Mr. Cellophane in pop culture recently, but couldn't figure out where. It was Glee, right? It was Kurt's audition song in Glee?)

Yeah, you know, I've loved Jose up until this week. He was starting to wear a little last week, and this week? I just wanted more. I still like him as a person, and I love that sort of inexplicable Jose-ness, but I wouldn't be terribly sad not to see him in the final.

I still didn't get the Joey Dowling piece at all. I felt like the two people on stage had nothing to do with each other; I get that it was the point, which makes me go: why? I don't understand why you'd make a partnered dance about NOT being partners. Maybe I would have liked it better if Billy or Robert had danced it (or Mark!) but... I dunno. I really didn't feel much at all about the choreography. No, not true - I actively disliked the choroegraphy. *shrug*

I have to say - Kathryn did do amazing with that disco, that was incredible.

Do you do ballroom? Because I come from a ballet background (I'm sure that's part of the reason I love contemporary so hard), and I have to say... it is so rare for me to like the ballroom dances. Even when they're supposedly amazing, I'm yawning. It's just not a genre that speaks to me at all.
