long, random entry is long and random
If I'd waited five minutes, this first thing could have been in the last entry. But then it would have been missing the second thing, which is also HEARTS IN MY EYES x1000.
Playbill.com interview with Michael Esper, Rebecca Naomi Jones, Stark Sands, and John Gallagher Jr.
When Michael talks about where he thinks his character goes from here, and what he hopes people take away from seeing the show? Oh, my heart.
Okay, seriously, I feel like I might spend a lot of time saying "I love so-and-so" with regards to characters or performers, but Oh My God do I love Michael Esper so much right now. (ETA: good job, fingers, of typing "like" there instead of "love" the first time.)
in case of (likely) embedding fail: Michael Esper talks about responsibilitynow here on youtube
Fear my lack of segue:
Random video: Unintentional hilarity from the 80s: You and your Johnson, a way of life for over 50 years
My favorite thing that someone said on the internet today (in this case, one of my friends, on Facebook): "The captain has extinguished the "sequitur" light."
And one more old spice parody: Study like a scholar, scholar
I feel like there's been a lot of discussion (none of which I have read) about Lilith Fair's failure, or relevance, or what have you, this year.
I went to Lilith Fair in 1990-whatever. I don't remember anything about who was there except for Sarah McLachlan, and I didn't watch most of her set. I'm not entirely sure what I did, and there's a good chance that that was the summer of my driving to random festivals en route to other destinations, which meant I spent a lot of time wandering around alone. At least I was sober, because wow is that an invitation to disaster.
Anyway, Lilith fair. Apparently this year's lineup included Kelly Clarkson, Rihanna and Norah Jones, Ke$ha, Corinne Bailey Rae and Martina McBride, some or all of whom have dropped out because Lilith cancelled a bunch of dates.
It's not like I would have traveled anyway, but I'm tempted to go to either the New York or the Hartford date to see Indigo Girls or Sarah Bareilles. I'm not sure I could care less about seeing Sarah McLachlan sing.
Dancing! General thoughts:
Hahahaha Nigel didn't notice that Jose wasn't in the group routines.
Did Adam call someone (Toni?) Esme when he was critiquing Kent?
Spencer Liff is adorable, and I am shallow. Sorry.
In descending order of how much I liked their solos,
Lauren is starting to remind me more and more of Allison, which is a very good thing.
Aaand I typed that before she got paired up with Allison. What is it with Damn Yankees? I also sort of didn't get this routine, like I didn't get Kent and Neil. Was that one Tyce's too? Because I'm happy to blame him. Like. Both of those routines needed to be chorus numbers rather than duos.
Adechike and Lauren's foxtrot was... perfectly acceptable? But a rough pull. Now what I want for next week is for everyone to do a ballroom routine of some sort, and then everyone to do a...something else.
Billy's solos, always interesting. Except for the fact that they're completely different, he sort of reminds me of Twitch that way.
Stacey Tookey is my favorite, favorite, favorite. Favorite. Fav. or. ite. Also worth mentioning, she choreographed Ade in a way that made me not hate him. Perhaps it was the fact that he had shoes on. But either way, bless her for giving Billy that choreography, because that's probably tied for first (with Kent and Adechike's chair/girlfriend contemporary) for my favorite routine of the season.
Wow, did Billy look so much like a girl at the beginning of that Bollywood routine. Like, that's okay? But odd. I feel like he wasn't in the routine, sort of like he wasn't in that hip hop that he got torn into about. Seeing him being sarcastic (totally okay with me!) in the clips, though, that really sort of highlights his uncomfortable distance from things. I can't unsee that nervous laughter from a couple weeks ago.
Adechike gets a third among solos, for no particular reason. I don't actually remember what other routines he had. Sorry, dude.
Kent? Hahahahaha dancing to Eliot Yamin. Kent's solos, always good, but not memorable.
His cha-cha was fine, but I have no idea what was going on with Anya's costume in that routine. Or her hair. Or her makeup. Kent's dancing didn't exactly light me up, either.
Robert still doesn't read like a star to me, but I suppose his solo was very nice. Tied with Kent on that front. Even though he's still a Ken doll (can't unsee that either) he was much more committed to the style, I felt, in the Bollywood with Billy. It was interesting to see them side by side given their casting together.
Stacey Tookey! And... yet another routine about going off to war. Which is okay. Because there's a twist! And at this time it's not that the woman's pregnant. I was distracted most of the routine because I was hoping that Katheryn wasn't going to startsqueaking crying. Also? That bag is one step away from a camouflage LeSportSac.
Tyce still drives me crazy. You know what? I have now totally forgotten what routine I typed that about. Jazz? With...someone?
However, for context, I know it was about halfway through the show, because that was when it occurred to me at this point that I haven't complained about either the stage or the lighting yet this season. I still sort of miss the fun backdrop, mostly because I loved that one Wade Robson routine with the Starry Night concept
I find myself bored by Jose's solos. Jose in hip hop. Really? Sometimes I hate random.
I have no idea who Marty Kudelka and Dana Wilson are, but I'd like to see a second routine by them for context. I love Comfort this season, so much, but wow do I not get that routine, and I need someone to blame. And it sort of sounds like Nigel doesn't get it either. D- But here, have a video of Marty Kudelka and Ivan (!!) at a workshop.
Kent totally owned Jose in that Broadway routine. I mean, Jose did all the steps? But he was just mediocre.
