I finally accomplished three of my early-summer goals today: walk to farmer's market, and watch the final two episodes of season one of Justified and SGU.

The farmer's market trip resulted in a 1/2 pint of raspberries (which only lasted until I got home because I bundled them up and hid the carton in my backpack where I couldn't pick at them), corn and tomatoes that are about to be dinner, a pint of blueberries that are breakfast tomorrow, and a loaf of bread which is fine, but not worth being a repeat buy. Oh, and four nectarines. None of their leafy green things were particularly inspiring, but next week I will probably pick up some pickling cucumbers if they still look good, and give that a shot.

And then TV, which also included weeding the episodes of Top Gear and When I was 17 on the DVR.

I loved Justified all season, and I have absolutely no excuse for why I stalled out two episodes shy of the end. In case there's anyone out there who is on the fence about whether to watch or not, I will say that the whole season was great (with the exception of one early episode that spent far too much time on a Criminal of the Week that I did not care about or see the point of) and the final episodes were both really satisfying. I'll probably rewatch the whole season when it comes out on DVD or re-airs before season two next year.

SGU, I will be honest, I did not love, but suddenly at the beginning of the final two-parter, 80% of the things that bothered me magically went away. It was handled a little too conveniently, actually, and I have to wonder (cynically) if the whole conclusion was planned from the beginning, or if anything changed during the hiatus after the original arc aired.

I've said all along that even though I didn't care about the characters - and I still don't - that the show was constructed in a cliffhanger-y way that kept me curious enough to watch the next episode. Clearly, they got to the end of the season and said "why have just one cliffhanger, when we can have six?"

I still don't exactly recommend SGU. I certainly don't recommend it as much as I recommend Justified. But if you simply have too many hours free, I don't think you'll hate yourself for watching it if you make it to the end of the season.

Part of the reason that I finally got around to watching old TV is that I haven't been in much of a fannish mood lately, or a reading mood for that matter. I've been checking the DW latest feed a couple times a day, and that's been interesting, if somewhat pointless.

Anyway, some time before I forgot how to read fiction, [personal profile] flamebyrd posted Some Enchanted Evening, which is a charming m/m urban fantasyish first date story, to [community profile] original_slash.

Huh. I've just realized that flamebyrd also wrote one of the Generation Kill Yuletide stories that I really liked.

I particularly liked A Suitable Match (regency), Avast Conspiracy (modern, college), The Patron Saint of Liars and Fakes (modern, fake boyfriends), and Never Gave a Damn About the Weather (modern, secret!pop star/punk dude), all of which are Shousetsu Bang*Bang stories, which I don't usually read just because I am usually kept more than busy with fannish things to read. Oh, and The Way You Move (modern, cop/robber) is probably my favorite. Most of [personal profile] flamebyrd's fannish stuff seems to be anime/manga/something I am n00b about fandoms, and I have the vague feeling that many of her original pieces are similar to that source, in terms of style and trope. Certainly I would expect that would be the case for the Shousetsu Bang*Bang stories, because that's sort of the point? Still, fun.
