I am really bad at listening to things
Sep. 3rd, 2009 06:59 pmIn high school, I would have said that I was an auditory learner, because I rarely did my homework, and did not read the textbook if I could get away with it, and I did fine. I am reasonably sure that's not true, now. I think the true thing was that high school was just not very hard.
I don't remember probably well over 50% of what I discuss with people, either because I don't listen or because I am capable of holding information in my brain for precisely long enough to use it in conversation, and then once the conversation is over, it's gone. I am apparently expert at making understanding sounds while not actually paying attention, which would be awesome if I was doing it on purpose, but most of the time I don't even notice that I've done it until after the conversation's over.
I watched the first four episodes of Defying Gravity today on hulu.com. (the first two episodes expire three days from now, if you want to check them out before you have to find another means to do so) I've had to watch most of the scenes with Donner's voice-over at least twice, because halfway through I realize that I have no idea what he's just said. And then, after I replay it and actually listen to him, I sort of wonder whether it's really necessary. Reminds me of the Wonder Years.
Other than that, I'm really enjoying the show. Engaging characters, interesting relationships, intriguing snippets of the future and the mystery. Two thumbs up, and I'm sort of reluctant to leave the remaining already-aired episodes to go play volleyball tonight.
Of course, I'm also reluctant to go play volleyball for a bunch of other reasons, but Defying Gravity is in there. Also, having to watch Project Runway at 11:30 instead of 10. And the fact that I forgot how to set in the month and a half that I took off for my sprained thumb.
