I have changed my LJ layout like 15 times in the past week. I have no idea why. But on to the important things!
So You Think You Can Dance! Shawizam!
(Are there people who can come up with SYTYCD without having to say the words in their head? I have to check it, every time.)
I need some sort of dancing icon. This need should be filed with my inexplicable lack of an American Idol icon.
I missed the first audition show because I was playing volleyball last week (totally would have reconsidered signing up for a Thursday night league if I'd been thinking, but I guess that's why we have DVRs) but I've seen most of it thanks to the sneaky person who posted 8 of 10 sections on youtube. With a link to register for something or other on their website to see the other two, and no thank you.
I like the auditions because I like the dancing, but I'm not too torn up about missing bits. I've also gotten to the point, like I have with Idol, that I anticipate the critiques, and am vaguely disappointed when the judges say something else. Like that tall kid, with the completely awesome, supportive football-coach dad? They were all over him needing to work on his strength, and I kept wanting to yell at the screen to tell him to dance to the audience, not to random corners and not offstage.
Tyce Diorio: best guest judge, or best guest judge? I could do with him being a little more succinct with the bad dancers, but I am so, so very tired of the fake-outs (I'm sorry... you're going to have to see us again in Vegas) so I sort of love that Tyce has no filter between his mouth and his brain.
Also! Lil' C! Sonya...whateverhernameis. Nothing to say about that, but I do love that they're continuing to mix the choreographers into the judging. Also, anything that means less time listening to Mia talk.
I sort of love when the judges cringe. I don't even care if they're doing it for the cameras.
They've already senttwo three tappers through to Vegas this year. If I'm remembering correctly, last year there was just one, and it was a chick with a bad attitude who ended up challenging the judges about something and being sent home.
Also, because I was forced to watch commercials, now I want a Verizon Wireless-sponsored HP netbook. I was pretty sure Verizon was going to get my business when I next shopped for a cell phone and a data plan, but I've never found a pseudo-deal wrapped in a two-year contract that I could say no to.

Date: 2009-05-28 03:14 am (UTC)Evan. Evan the jazz dancing fool. I love him. I hope he makes the top 20. And Natalie. She was gorgeous.
The question is - who will be my John Sheppard? *bites fingernails*

Date: 2009-05-28 03:18 am (UTC)Does this mean that we can look forward to lots of someone haranguing John to EXPRESS HIS FEELINGS THROUGH DANCE?
And Evan! Yes! Man, I forgot to mention my absolute favorite thing about SYTYCD, that the judges tell people who get cut before the live shows to keep working and come back, as opposed to American Idol, where they shove people out the door as fast as possible.

Date: 2009-05-28 03:27 am (UTC)You know, every time they show little snippets of Mark from last season my heart breaks a little. I loved him so much.
Oh, and hey - I have two SYTYCD icons - this one (Benji) and Ivan (I am a HUGE Ivan/Travis shipper). Both made for me by
Oh hell, since I already edited once... I'm sort of thinking of replacing Mia with Rodney. Though he's really more like Wade in my head. But can you imaging a young graceful John dancing Mia's choreography and having Rodney bitching about it?! *lost in space*

Date: 2009-05-28 03:49 am (UTC)It has been so long since I saw Wade talk about anything. Does he talk? I think his choreography is a better fit, personality-wise (like I am in any position to judge...) but Mia either loves loves loves things or hates hates hates them, so she seems like a more natural Rodney-type.
Although, now I sort of want John to be the one person, ever, to stand up to Mia-choreographer and say "You know, this looks really stupid." And of course John would be wrong and Rodney would be right, because he's brilliant, but... Wow. I am really glad I'm not writing this.

Date: 2009-05-28 03:58 am (UTC)Yes, actually! I was planning on having him basically be Wade, but personality-wise he didn't fit. Having him be a mix of Wade and Mia might do the trick.
I'm on the fence about Mia. I hated her early on, but a lot of her choreography really works for me, so I like her a little better these days. (I'm loving Sonia and Tabitha & Napoleon, though, I really look forward to their choreography this season.) It's creepy how much she reminds me of my ex-girlfriend, though, both in looks and in her weird attitude which is too soft sometimes and too harsh sometimes and ridiculously over-the-top all the time.
This fic may kill me. Seriously. Ack.

Date: 2009-05-28 04:09 am (UTC)It's sort of like this - doctors and, like, firemen and policemen are important people who do important jobs, who I have a great deal of respect for, but many of them also have a level of self-confidence and bravado that I find personally off-putting. But I don't want a fireman who's going to stand there for a minute to psych himself up before he charges in. I want a fireman who is confident that he is well-trained and damn good at his job.
This? Is my problem with Mia Michaels. If you have a career in any sort of commercial art, you don't get as far if you're going to diddle around and shuffle your feet a lot, and I respect that, but it doesn't mean I want to hang out with her, or watch her talk, if I can help it.
And this fic will not kill you. It will make you stronger!
