Dude! My gmail inbox is a complete disaster. The fun threading issues with comment notifications are not helping, so, just... I'm sorry. I will do better! Maybe.

I've nearly caught up on The Daily Show. My mother has a month's backlog of the New York Times and Wall Street Journal to work through. It may be a race to see who clears the backlog first, but I'm sure she'll be more well-informed than I whenever we each catch up.

DANCING - YAY! SYTYCD's first live show was tonight, and I really wish I'd bothered to set up my tv tuner to record, so I could insta-post some videos and refer to them. I'm pretty sure this was the best top 20 show ever.

Comments on each of the couples behind the cut, because it's my journal, and I can.

Jeanine and Phillip! I think Jeanine was my favorite girl after the interviews, and that might be because of the pretty floaty blue dress she was wearing, and there's nothing that I don't love about Phillip

I was worried about Asuka and Vitolio's chemistry and... rightfully so. It's a shame the routine was so under-acted because it was a cute concept.

Jonathan is the cutest thing ever in the most generic way. Like, a Sears model or something. He had a hell of a time keeping up with Karla, I thought, but considering his age and all, he did well enough. I wouldn't be surprised to see him go home if it comes to a judge's decision, but all the teenyboppers might vote to keep him safe.

Randi and Evan's jazz - So crisp! Also, Evan's brothers! and Randi is married! I am still fascinated by people who are married, apparently. And wow yeah Kat is waaaay taller than they are.

Paris and Tony seemed like they were skipping over the music rather than down in it. I still won't be surprised if Tony goes home, especially since he didn't do all that well in what should have been his strongest style. He might get through on the strength of his solo if it's clever, again.

Caitlin and Jason had a lot to live up with following last season's Bollywood, and while it was a little sloppy in the middle, it was a ridiculous routine, and they did more than well enough. Jason is also precious, but he doesn't look like he should be in a toothpaste commercial.

Janette and Brandon (by Louis van Amstel! Who, actually, I don't love, but he choreographs good stuff usually) were about what I expected. Janette pulled off classy very very well. Maybe Brandon's just not used to dancing in shoes, because some of his footwork was a hot mess, better than I thought he'd do, though. He was much better in the parts out of hold where he could sparkle a bit.

I really hope we're going to get to see more Wade Robson routines this season. I have no idea what's going on with that Chris Angel show, or what else Wade's doing. Ashley and Kupono totally lucked into a very memorable routine ("Conceptually, it's about two crash-test dummies" and "Living life like you've never been hurt.") and danced it very well. This routine in particular makes me really wish I'd set up my tv tuner before tonight so that I could instantly go post it to youtube.

All I have to say about Melissa and Ade's contemporary is: gorgeous lifts. Melissa is clearly very talented and very well-trained, but I am about over the dirty ballerina thing. For now, though, she has picked up my dress-crush from Jeanine, and they really did do a gorgeous job.

And finally, Kayla and Max's samba. I am so, so, so glad that Kayle got a fun style, and something different, because she's borderline for disappearing into the sea of female lyrical/contemporary dancers for the audience, I think.

And! I love this commercial. Sorry, but I do. I miss the days when commercials were all, "Use Tide Detergent, look at how well it gets rid of stains," but I have to respect that people want to make the damn things memorable, too. Even though I've seen this commercial like 30 times, and only just today realized it was for Prius. I probably need a tag for commercials, so that I can further advertise the fact that I am a sheep.

So have you got favorites yet?

I'm still liking individual dancers right now - Asuka, Evan, Brandon, Caitlin (she was a surprise!), Jeanine, Jason. Kayla may grow on me.

So far, the only couple that really captures my imagination is Jeanine and Philip - I hope they go far.
