sort of livebloggy dancing reactions.
Jul. 29th, 2009 10:06 pmHello, internet, I'm back! I started a post about things this afternoon, but I got distracted, so that will have to wait until tomorrow. Tomorrow is also puppy day, so I suspect there will be pictures.
I've just realized that I totally failed to reply to comments about dancing last week in my flailing about broken internet. Oops.
Lil C!
Sonya Tayeh's guys routine. Did not love it, not sure why. I don't see any way that Ade and Brandon carrying someone overhead is comfortable, with their difference in height.
I've seen a lot of Samba on Dancing with the Stars. I love samba, and I didn't love Jeanine and Ade. And Jeanine's face kept distracting me with whatever that angry/sexy expression she was holding onto. I don't want to say that I think Evan should be in the finals, because every week, I think, "this is the week Ade's going to break out!" But after Ade's first routine tonight, I'm ready to give up on him
Kayla's whole solo seemed like it was 4 counts off.
Evan and Melissa again, I wanted it to be bigger. I'm having a lot of trouble this season with performances that are precise rather than outstanding. Bonus points for sock garters, though.
I still hate Ade's solos, and I'm starting to feel bad about it. No layout this week? Or maybe I was so bored that I looked away and missed it.
After the first two couples, I was very excited and hopeful to see Brandon and Kayla. I didn't love Kayla and Brandon's contemporary as much as I loved Kayla and Kupono's routine from Mia, but it was close.
Okay, Jeanine's stank face in the hip hop was the twin of her samba face. Where's the joy people? I really lost any lingering sense of who Ade was in the costume. I also really want less Tabitha and Napoleon next season. More someone else, plz.
On a sort of related note, has Lil C done a routine this season? That's rough if they're saving krumping for the finale.
It was really obvious how short Evan's legs were in hold. Maybe it was the comparison to Melissa's lines that did it, but they just didn't look right. But wow did they luck out getting quickstep. Although, WTH was Evan's jacket? Some sort of cut velvet?
I hated Kayla's shoes in the Disco routine - and they may have been a height choice, which, whatever - and it just totally threw me out of the routine. Janette and Brandon really nailed their disco, and this just didn't seem to measure up.
I think I figured out what I didn't like about the girls' and guys' routines. I don't think I'm interested in Sonya's unison choreography. I wanted to see more interaction between them, but I guess maybe they were good routines for demonstrating who the best dancer might be in terms of whether someone outperformed the others.
Er... and happy (really belated, mostly) birthday

Date: 2009-07-30 03:41 am (UTC)And Evan, I like more because I want to spite the judges, you know? They're hard on him for the wrong reasons. Well, sometimes the right reasons too. It's stupid though - sometime (hopefully sooner rather than later) the judges will learn that their criticisms bolster the voters.
And thank you for the birthday wishes! It was spectactular!

Date: 2009-07-31 12:16 am (UTC)I think Janette is a phenomenal dancer, technically, but I wanted more range in her performance. I can't remember whether she had a routine where her cheerleader-like level of energy wasn't an appropriate choice. Sort of the same way I feel about Melissa and her reserve.
In seasons 1 or 2, if Evan had made it to the live show I think he'd have gotten a lot more praise, because it was so much more common for people to be fantastic at their own style, and kind of crap at the others. I think Twitch and Josh (and everyone else who's excelled or surprised the judges since) have spoiled the judges and now they expect everyone to soar beyond their genre. It'll be interesting, too, to see how the fall season judging goes, with less lag time since the previous season.

Date: 2009-07-31 02:11 am (UTC)But I liked ballet guy, so I'll probably be eating my words when he makes it.
You know if you haven't done much tinkering, you can always re-import. I imported my fic journal like three times because I kept getting more comments.

Date: 2009-07-31 02:18 am (UTC)I was sort of wondering, watching Melissa tonight, whether there's likely to be a bias in a company against someone who has broader (somewhat-)commercial experience like she has now, instead of having kept her nose to the ballet grindstone.
The fic index is gone the way of the dodo, I think, unless its hiding in the middle of my journal somewhere. I edited the dw version and accidentally crossposted it, and then couldn't edit either the original or the crossposted LJ version, for some reason. Was very odd. It was horribly out of date anyway, as I think it just had my die hard fic in it. I still haven't decided whether I'm going to claim the anonymous comic book smut I wrote, either.

Date: 2009-07-31 02:25 am (UTC)I have a couple of pieces under pseuds - two of which I REALLY REALLY like, but can never claim because they're on Yuletide. :(
Though if the index is somewhere on LJ (assuming you didn't delete it from there) you can still import it - but it sounds like what you've done makes it not really worth the effort.
I don't know - I don't think diversity in your dance is ever a bad thing (but I could be wrong - I do know ballet is a pretty snobby dance form). I don't remember anything about the guy either, except that thing about his contract. I remember liking him, though.
