By some miracle, I wrote a thing that survived AELDWS week 1. That's a nice feeling. I so rarely identify with reality show contestants, but like they say, you never want to be the first one sent off.

Unless you hate it and don't want to play anymore, but whatever.

I feel like I haven't posted recs in forever. These are both Inception crossovers, which is odd, considering that I've sort of stopped reading Inception fic. Also, Eames's PoV. Anywho!

Inception/Hawaii 5-0 secretly a reef rat (LJ, DW) by [personal profile] templemarker

Author's Notes: This story came from loverly's prompt on inception_kink for an Inception/Hawaii 5-0 crossover, "Arthur is Steve's brother." I genuinely thought, when I answered this prompt, that it was going to be an amusing one-off crossover that would take me an afternoon to write. 27,000 words later, I was clearly, flatly wrong.

They were working a simple bait-and-extract, pulling corporate espionage on one company and feeding it to a competitor, when Arthur got a phone call.

My note: I've only seen one episode of Hawaii 5-0 (I am never sure whether the new one is the letter or the number) but I have read a fair amount of fic, and this is fabulous on many more levels than I can conjure words to explain at the moment. I would read a million words of this Eames's life.

Synergy (AO3) and also on LJ (40100 words) by faviconAirgiodSLV
Fandom: Inception (2010)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Arthur (Inception), Eames (Inception), Spencer Reid
Summary:

There’s only one team member that the Fischer and Rothchild jobs had in common, which means only one person who could theoretically tie the two cases together.

Whatever the FBI knows, Eames wants to know it, too.

My note: [livejournal.com profile] airgiodslv is one of those authors who I'd follow anywhere, except for the part where I've never friended the journal, and I'm not actually in bandom, and so every month or so I think to go wander by. This is not a system I recommend, and someday I may get over myself about it.

Anyway! Awesomeness abounds. Including many more characters than the header indicates, but the focus is on those three. Go read. this isn't so much a spoiler for the fic, but it's a spoiler for part of the premise, which the author chose to spoiler-text in the original post on lj )
Also, I am watching Flashpoint on Netflix. I'm just past the start of Season 3 (episode 33 according to the queue), but I am not convinced that it is actually Season 3 based on some comments about spoilery events I will not mention. It is perhaps Season 3 in the US but something else in Canada?
I went back to look at my WIP meme entry from November of last year, and I'd forgotten how much I like some of those stories. I've only finished one of them, and I'm pretty sure that I have at least 5 new snippety files that aren't on that list. I'm travelling later this week, so maybe I'll actually write something. Feel free to tell me if you have any suggestions. Blargh.

I'm subscribed to [community profile] otw_news, but I don't always read the posts, or read them carefully. Have y'all seen the Challenges tutorial: creating and running a gift exchange? Wow.
This is me in my glass house, throwing stones: I can't work out a system for what I'm reading in Inception fic, because it has been such a long time since I've read in a fandom this large, and I can't handle how uneven the fic is. There was at least one kink meme fill recently that was like, la la happy joy and then WHABAM! Totally ridic angst ending for no good reason, and there's ten minutes of my life that I'll never get back. Say I have two hours a day to read, and I don't just want to keep up with the BNFs or whatever, because I as a middle-of-the-road author, I totally want to heap love on the people in the shadows.

So, I'm reading mostly the stuff that gets posted to AO3, for no particularly good reason other than it's a manageable flow.
Speaking of AO3, fic recs!
Inception, Arthur/Eames
dastardly and muttley (or, a decidedly canine dating service) by [archiveofourown.org profile] scrapbullet The dog belongs to Eames, and he's pretty much what you'd expect Eames's dog to be.

Sports Night, Casey/Dan
restrained by [archiveofourown.org profile] mardia (and also reccing everything else mardia's written, I think) Casey's got a kink, and it breaks Dan's brain a bit, and then everything is awesome.
Uh, other stuff from the weekend. Watched the first two episodes of Running Wilde (somewhat uneven, generally funny, but watching comedies is a group activity for me); the pilot of Chase (a little heavyhanded with the main chick's backstory and the indoctrinating the new guy from The City); the pilot of No Ordinary Family (exposition like whoa, but I'll give the second episode a chance). I also finally watched the first few episodes of The Colony, which would be more interesting if I didn't spend so much time wondering how the "invaders" are trained/instructed regarding violence against the colonists.

I'm in the process of trying to watch tonight's DWTS, but... I don't really care. I keep hitting pause to concentrate on reading things.

healingmirth: Glitch from Tin Man: "o.O" (Glitch)
Anyone (and I do mean anyone, people on /network or /latest) feel like betaing a slightly angsty Arthur/Eames Eames-PoV wedding jitters story, and possibly an anniversary timestamp/epilogue thing, before I throw them to the wolves of the old beta list at the meme? (why do I continue to write these things when my soul cries out for heist!fic?)

It's a bit at the not!fic stage at the moment, and I'm not in any particular hurry to post it. I'm stuck between "here, I have written you commentfic for your prompt" and "look! a whole story that makes sense!" So, not actually finished enough yet to inflict on well-meaning strangers.

Why do I have four Star Trek icons, when I'm not even in the fandom, and still no Inception ones? I should fix that. On a related note: I can never remember what Star Trek: AOS is meant to stand for, so in my head it now means alternate origin story. Alternate original series just feels like an oxymoron or something to me.
healingmirth: Cougar from The Losers: "uh-huh" (uh-huh)
No, really, the VMAs were super boring. One of the jackass dudes ripped off his clothes and had some...unusual underwear on. I'm sure the internet has pictures, but I don't want to examine it too closely.

Apparently Travis Wall is choreographing all the things now, including a routine for some song I had never heard until tonight, but which is apparently Quite Popular. Also, how is that Muse song still being nominated for awards? Isn't it, like, ancient?
On the spectrum from WTFCrack to super-plotty awesome (let's ignore the corners of fluffy romance and angst-death for the moment. they don't suit my metaphor and I am tired) I think these two fics are nearly at opposite ends:

I don't consider this crack because WoW is Serious Business, y'all, and I totally buy into the opening paragraphs of this story. But, for the rest of the fandom, yes, this is probably as close to crack!fic as Care Bears and My Little Ponies and unicorns: 'tis pity he's a horde by [livejournal.com profile] ocelot_summer aka the one where Arthur and Eames play World of Warcraft on the same server, unbeknownst to each other.

And then, from the awesome plot side: Amazing Grace by [livejournal.com profile] airgiodslv. This is canon-level fic, for serious. (and some fairly serious canon thinking required to follow its awesomeness, as well) It's labelled Arthur/Eames and Cobb/Mal, and it is that, but it is so much more.
I still have not watched the Sons of Anarchy premiere, because I can't remember what happened last season. Argh. Why doesn't TWOP have season two summaries :( I hate having to ask Wikipedia questions about TV plots.
