American Idol! Rock week! OMG! STYX! Renegade! I seriously did a little dance when Seacrest announced the song.

The first concert I went to (without my parents - I'm not proud, I'll admit that my mom and I went to see the Monkees in concert when they released that album in the 80s) was Styx and Kansas after my freshman year in college. Despite the fact that I didn't know the first thing about either band. A friend from my house asked if I wanted to go, I think mostly because I was the only person from school who lived within 4 hours of him back home. I went out and bought their two greatest hits CDs, because I didn't want to admit that I didn't know their music. I'm not sure I'd even heard of the band. I'm still not, like, a huge fan of Styx, but I totally love, love, love rock songs with bits of a capella harmonies. The end of Love in an Elevator is one of my favorite things ever. I'm weak.

I'm still fangirling Kris Allen so much, it's embarrassing. (and my brain is totally convinced that embarrassing has one R. I can't remember the last time I typed it correctly, and I seem to be using it a lot lately.)

And for once, I completely and totally understood and agree with what Paula said - his "artistic imprint" on the song was fantastic, even if none of the other judges liked it.

Simon's comment about eating ice made from mineral water reminded me - I saw someone jogging, for real jogging in running clothes and sneakers - with a bottle of Perrier the other day.

Speaking of fangirling people (metaphorically... so far) half my age. Mark Ballas! I had something to say, but then I went looking for links, and have forgotten what it was. So instead, have a video from his horrible pop band with Derek Hough.

cutesy video for the Ballas Hough band's song 'Do you Love Me' - featuring pretty much everyone from Dancing with the Stars )

Also, just saw a promo for House that makes me never want to watch it again. I have no idea what's happened the past two seasons, and now i totally don't want to, if that is what it leads to.

And because I haven't mentioned it in at least 7 days, am still so excited for the sneak preview or whatever of Glee that I can hardly stand it. And then, of course, there's a wait of 2+ months until the fall premiere. *melodramatic sigh*

I can't remember the last time, before the Obama administration, when I watched an entire presidential address or press conference. Although, it was a near thing tonight. He's great, and I was interested in his responses, but man does he love his words.

wow, this is longer on the page than it was in my head )

In even more shallow news, this was the episode of American Idol where they split everyone into groups, and then make the last person pick which group they belong with. Last season, Archuleta refused to pick, and sat down on the stage. I think the person they pulled it on previous to that also refused to pick.

This season, they made Adam Lambert pick - omgz spoilerz )

Sweet! Cross-posting cut tags work now!

ETA - episode? is that even the right word, for competition/reality shows?

Firefox and livejournal are conspiring to not load userpics. Ever. Like, page loads for infinity+1 minutes with no progress. IE? totally fine. *grumble*

My cat attempted to break one of his legs this morning when he leapt at a bug in the window and got tangled up in the curtain, pulling it down with him. Thankfully, the limp was gone in under an hour, because "cat with injury" is not how I want to introduce myself to a new vet.

American Idol is not as exciting as I feel like it should be, and all of the judges but for Simon are seriously on my last nerve. The right person got kicked off Dancing with the Stars tonight.

But most importantly - ABC is remaking Cupid! What?!? How did I miss this? Is this Rob Thomas's karmic reward for Veronica Mars getting drop-kicked?

Seriously, it is the same show from 11 years ago. The hell? I know what I'll be catching up on tomorrow.

Also: Public service announcement! Doing volleyball conditioning when one is not in any sort of shape is a monumentally stupid idea.

Once, just once, I want Seacrest to say "This IS... American Idol!"

blahity blah blah. also, spoilers! )

I feel so, so, so bad for Lil.

I think Danny Gokey will be very popular on the State Fair circuit.

For almost the first time ever, I was on board with Adam Lambert tonight until he hit that godawful note in the middle of the chorus. I didn't even recognize the song he was singing until the chorus, and I mean that in a good way. And I do sort of love his shout-outs to the band and other people for the arrangements, but it's also a very broadway thing to do, like applauding the orchestra. Not wrong, I mean, hooray for credit, but it's still showy.

Kara: I think you meant Saturday Night Fever, not Saturday Night Live.

Quentin Tarantino was this week's mentor on American Idol. What? WHAT?!? I mean, I get his thing with music and all, but, seriously?

singing talkity )

I wish I had screencaps from Dancing with the Stars this week. The judges were all hot and bothered, both positive and negative, about Chuck and Julianne's rumba, but seriously, it was all due to the fact that she looked like a whore in her black lace thigh-highs. I used to love this show, but now I just want So You Think You Can Dance to come back.

However, things I do love. I sort of love that Folgers airs the same commercials for like 10 years. There's the one where that guy comes home early Christmas morning. They showed the Irish dancing one that I swear came out when I was in college during the results show tonight.

and finally -

Susan Boyle's audition on Britain's Got Talent I think everyone on the internet has seen this by now, but if not, watch it.

I am so excited for Glee that I can barely stand it.

I had something to say about American Idol yesterday, but I forgot.

Also, Flo Rida and his latest single seem like an odd choice to perform on something as family-friendly as Idol, no matter how popular he is

Dear America: I do not understand the praise Adam Lambert is getting from the judges. Seriously, he's like Taylor Hicks, except that he's younger and wears makeup. Yes, he is a talented singer. Yes, he is a performer. I do not doubt that people are entertained by him, but they are also entertained by Tom Jones. Tom Jones is not rocking the Top 40. I still have no idea what Adam's album or tour would look like.

Kris Allen, on the other hand, I can see being hugely popular, even with the cutesy wife. Ditto Matt Giraud, if he'd perform consistently. I don't think he was as bad as they thought he was, but he didn't blow the roof off it tonight.

and everyone else )

Also, god job Kara learning to count.

I feel like its being Captain Obvious to say that I love Motown music. It probably isn't, but everyone should love Motown.

But now, halfway through the show, I am suddenly terrified about what Adam Lambert is going to sing, and that I am going to need to hire someone to sew his lips together before he murders another song.

ETA: Adam is forgiven. Also, Kara can not count to 6.

In the order that things happened or I noticed them (which is to say, not at all in order of importance)

Also, people were voted off, apparently.
