I remembered this existed today, and then I went to go re-read it, and then I clicked the Carter/Richards tag and sorted by hit count, and this wasn't at the top, which is a damn shame, so, fic rec! Heed the warnings in the author's note etc., but it's all pretty fanon-typical for dystopia fic.

If someone wants to validate my opinion of its awesomeness, I will perhaps go rec this on [community profile] bestthingever. Or you can!

[archiveofourown.org profile] ionthesparrow is also the author of the Teen Wolf Written Works series, which I remember really liking all of, but I don't actually remember what happened to Derek and Stiles (and Lydia and everyone else) in the first two parts after reading the unexpected awesomeness of the Allison/Lydia third part.
healingmirth: Glitch from Tin Man: "o.O" (Glitch)
In the interest of my ever being a productive member of society again, I really need Teen Wolf fen to stop producing stuff like this. And here we have a prime example of how many people (like me, obvs.) are just getting started, argh.

Perhaps someday I will linkify the rest of my recs from the past few weeks, but I'm pretty sure we're all reading the same things.

healingmirth: Coca-Cola bear with Yuletide text (yuletide)
I? Have Yuletide fatigue.

If you are desperately curious as to what I've been reading, I'm bookmarking everything on my Ao3 account, and instead of duplicating that, I'm just going to highlight a few stories that I wish were getting more attention.

This first one's outside the cut, because I really, really, really wish more people would read it and tell the author it's fabulous. It's about as close as you can get to a five-minute fandom, and you can google book about 70% of the script for the scene, and pick up the rest on youtube. (There are many versions on youtube, bless them all for filming their efforts, that's one of the better ones, though perhaps not the best.)

If you ever believe anything that I have posted in this journal, believe me when I say that I am delighted - DELIGHTED - and I do not use that word... uh... lightly. Anyway. Very much enamored of the stories that I received for Yuletide. I can't decide where to go next in the archive, because while I am sure there are hundreds if not thousands of stories that I could enjoy with a minute on wikipedia to look up the character names, this stories are MINE from canons that are dear to my heart for various and sundry reasons, and this is definitely luck rather than anything I have ever done to deserve them or will ever do to be worthy of the blessing.

Seriously. I am that happy.

Warrior, The Breakfast Club x2 and Kicking and Screaming, recced in the order they showed up on my gifts page )
healingmirth: Wolverine's claws: "snikt" (snikt)
I am not a hockey fan. I've never lived in a community with the critical mass of interest, and while I went to a few of our games in high school, I can't remember why. I can only imagine that one of us had a crush on someone on the team.

I haven't managed to read all of this article yet, both because it is long, and I am at work, and because it's making me more sad with every sentence.

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/12/04/sports/hockey/derek-boogaard-a-boy-learns-to-brawl.html

That said, also read some hockey RPF last week, and found a story from last year's RPF big bang, team Canada at the Vancouver Olympics (remember that month when winter games RPF took over fandom? Good times.) that is filled with such love for the sport that it almost makes me forget how utterly useless I find watching hockey on TV to be:

going up flying, going home (master post) (Sidney Crosby/Jonathan Toews, author warns for "explicit sexual activity, very mild breathplay, cutting, scarification, violence of the hockey-related sort")

I don't have anything even vaguely approaching an appropriate icon, so therefore, uh... Logan => Canada => hockey => angst => Logan...
healingmirth: Glitch from Tin Man: "o.O" (Glitch)
"This City" or something? There's a lot of predictable rhymes. And some dude rapping, with much more interesting word choice. So basically like every other pop song.

Oh, there's a bridge, and then a key change!

Um, in other news

Beloved of Ravens XM:FC Charles/Erik Viking AU. 15k-ish? Your typical two-lj-entry length, anyway. [livejournal.com profile] khaleesian is mostly (only?) known for her TFATF fic, and I really enjoyed her attention to detail applied to something other than cars, cause the car stuff is really lost on me. (ETA also on Ao3.)

I scrolled past a lot of stuff that I could have read, like all of the Firefly fics, and others that I'm sure I am forgetting but will hopefully find at some point this week. These are just the ones I pulled from my recent comments page. I feel like there was a Darwin/Havok one, and maybe some TSN that I'm missing here. Oh, well. In mostly chronological order!

A Helping Hand, Sirens, Ashley/Stuart, drink by [personal profile] radioaches
I don't know a single thing about this fandom (as I said in the comment I left). Apparently Ashley is gay and Stuart is... mostly not? I don't know, but it's hot and I liked Ashley's POV, and will assume that its somewhat accurate to canon.

May Morning, X-Men: First Class, Charles Xavier/Erik Lehnsherr, Oxford
Continuing the theme of things I don't know anything about: Oxford, and Oxford in the 60s. The setting is great fun for a drunk Charles and a slightly-less-drunk Erik to meet (and hook up, natch) a bit ahead of the XM:FC timeline.

A Match Made in TV Tropes, Community/Doctor Who, Abed Nadir/Eleven, exception
I have watched exactly one episode of Community (I know!) and none of Doctor Who (I know!) but this is hilarious.

Holiday, Much Ado About Nothing (play), Beatrice/Benedick/Don Pedro, royalty, dirty, dancing, revel, by [personal profile] imaginary_golux
Made of win.

Because He Can, Pretty in Pink, Blane/Steff, jerk, by [personal profile] scribblinlenore
Warning for dubcon. Blane is a mess, Steff does about what you'd expect in the situation.

And the Rules Lost, Generation Kill, Brad Colbert/Nate Fick, university, cheeky, competitive, challenge, jaw, by [livejournal.com profile] sheveled
First-meeting college AU, short but sweet hot.

I feel like I haven't posted recs in forever. These are both Inception crossovers, which is odd, considering that I've sort of stopped reading Inception fic. Also, Eames's PoV. Anywho!

Inception/Hawaii 5-0 secretly a reef rat (LJ, DW) by [personal profile] templemarker

Author's Notes: This story came from loverly's prompt on inception_kink for an Inception/Hawaii 5-0 crossover, "Arthur is Steve's brother." I genuinely thought, when I answered this prompt, that it was going to be an amusing one-off crossover that would take me an afternoon to write. 27,000 words later, I was clearly, flatly wrong.

They were working a simple bait-and-extract, pulling corporate espionage on one company and feeding it to a competitor, when Arthur got a phone call.

My note: I've only seen one episode of Hawaii 5-0 (I am never sure whether the new one is the letter or the number) but I have read a fair amount of fic, and this is fabulous on many more levels than I can conjure words to explain at the moment. I would read a million words of this Eames's life.

Synergy (AO3) and also on LJ (40100 words) by faviconAirgiodSLV
Fandom: Inception (2010)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Arthur (Inception), Eames (Inception), Spencer Reid
Summary:

There’s only one team member that the Fischer and Rothchild jobs had in common, which means only one person who could theoretically tie the two cases together.

Whatever the FBI knows, Eames wants to know it, too.

My note: [livejournal.com profile] airgiodslv is one of those authors who I'd follow anywhere, except for the part where I've never friended the journal, and I'm not actually in bandom, and so every month or so I think to go wander by. This is not a system I recommend, and someday I may get over myself about it.

Anyway! Awesomeness abounds. Including many more characters than the header indicates, but the focus is on those three. Go read. this isn't so much a spoiler for the fic, but it's a spoiler for part of the premise, which the author chose to spoiler-text in the original post on lj )
Also, I am watching Flashpoint on Netflix. I'm just past the start of Season 3 (episode 33 according to the queue), but I am not convinced that it is actually Season 3 based on some comments about spoilery events I will not mention. It is perhaps Season 3 in the US but something else in Canada?
I went back to look at my WIP meme entry from November of last year, and I'd forgotten how much I like some of those stories. I've only finished one of them, and I'm pretty sure that I have at least 5 new snippety files that aren't on that list. I'm travelling later this week, so maybe I'll actually write something. Feel free to tell me if you have any suggestions. Blargh.
healingmirth: Coca-Cola bear with Yuletide text (yuletide)
(aka the one where I sort the collection by word count, because the idea of tackling the fandom list and reading 100 different (awesome!) shorter fics made my head hurt.)

I spent most of the day in a Benadryl-induced haze, but in between passing out asleep, I read some things! And am now making use of handy-dandy share button on AO3 ♥ for these five stories because I love them so, so much more than I am capable of forming words to describe. *falls over*

healingmirth: Coca-Cola bear with Yuletide text (yuletide)
I uploaded my Yuletide story, in the server peace and quiet of the early morning east coast US, and then like magic, there was fabulous GK fic where they're all angels, sort of to reward me.

Also, yesterday, Sometimes ice cream is just ice cream, Tunny/Will and Johnny.

There were other things that were awesome this week, like random old Sports Night fic, some of which I was rereading and some of which was new to me, but wow am I about to be late for work.
