Four things, about as disjointed as usual:

I spent most of the first half of last night's Project Runway thinking about how I am such a sucker for their editing tricks and narrative structure. There were brief side trips into how completely uninterested I am in Casanova.
Okay, so. I witnessed a moment between two people yesterday, two people who I recognize on sight, but who do not know me. At least one of the two is dating someone else, so far as I know, but it's none of my business either way, except that I have been programmed by the media to believe that other people's personal lives are my business.

Had this been two random, unknown people on the street, it would have been beautiful, and made me happy, but because of the bits of information that I think I know, it's driving me crazy with both curiosity and awkwardness, because if it wasn't a Moment, what was it? Is there something wrong? Also, there is one very small part of me that sort of hopes that they are together or are on their way there, and I knew about it ahead of the curve. Ugh, my brain. Stop being a total creeper.
I don't spend a lot of time thinking about American Apparel's marketing, except for the fact that it's skeevy, but I do appreciate when other people express the thought:

"I can appreciate campy hot. This was intended to be hot in an American Apparel,"I'm hip but broken, please call the authorities for me" way" - @maryfaber, related in some way to Ke$ha's dancers.
I'm very much in the midst of feeling like I have read all the stories. I know this is not the case, but my recent wanderings in original fiction are making me less inclined to, for instance, go read the 30th story where Brad and Nate negotiate separations and deployments and DADT and their inability to discuss their feelings. It's certainly not making me want to write one. If you've read anything recently (and have it to hand) that's really different either in terms of setting or plot or style, rec me things? I am not picky about fandom/pairing/genre/gender, even if it's something that I have to google to tell the characters apart.

I am almost-perpetually in a state of having just forgotten something, at which point there is a very present feeling of having just forgotten something. This has been known to happen in the time between thinking "I should look that up," while in the middle of a paragraph, and opening a tab to google 30 seconds later. I eventually remember what it is above 90% of the time, though, so it's not as bad as it could be.
Every time I go to sleep with wet hair, I feel stuffy and headache-y all the next morning. Every time! One would hope, as it takes about five minutes to dry my hair, that someday I will cease to go to bed with wet hair. Am about to go take a shower, so we'll see if I learn that lesson tonight.
I'm going to go see the matinee of Lend Me a Tenor with my mother on Saturday, and while I really can't expect my mother to want to walk a mile in the city at noon if the weather's anywhere near as bad as it was today, I sort of feel like a failure for not advocating for taking the train in.

ETA: Why does it never occur to me that there are cabs in New York when I am thinking about transportation? I tend to ignore the subway, too, unless I'm going waaaay up- or downtown.
SYTYCD tonight went as it should have, but I missed the opening routine because of technical difficulties. I really enjoyed both of the musical guests for pretty much the first time ever, but I had to fast-forward through Desmond Richardson's routine, and I feel a bit like a failure for being uninterested in his work. I didn't watch the classical ballet earlier this season either.
Project Runway also went precisely as it should have. A.J. whatisname and Michael Costello are my favorites to watch so far, so I hope their designs hold up at least for a few weeks.

Things that are awesome:

Sons of Anarchy, Season 1

I watched the first episode or two and thought, "Oh, so it's like Hamlet." And then I went and looked at the wikipedia article and yeah, it's Hamlet. Except with motorcycles and methheads. I haven't read anything about season two yet, because I don't want to spoil the end of the first season. It's compelling tv, and I hope the second season keeps it up.

SYTYCD

I tried not to get too attached to anyone from Vegas week, because that never ends well. I don't trust their editors. I am, however, very excited for this season.

Also? Mia Michaels announced her... resignation? from the show. I'm not sure what sort of contract the choreographers and judges have, but whatever her involvement has been in the past, it's over. I am highly curious, what with her warm-fuzzy-huggy choreography session in Vegas week whether she's had some sort of Life Changing Epiphany or something. Also, she tweets in all caps. I hate that. ETA Also? she's got shaved-short hair and... lots of nice things to say, as of last week's SYTYCD Canada. I am so, so confused. I, uh, hope she's just her normal level of crazy?

Things that are not as much fun as they used to be:

Project Runway

I hate Nicholas like I hated Kenley, but at least Kenley was clearly being set up as a villain. I feel bad for hating Nicholas, because he's just a big geek. Remember that first challenge when he made the "punk" outfit which was so, so, so not? Based on all that time he spent hanging out with the punk kids? (or following them like a lost puppy?) He's not nearly as catty as Kenley was given their similar "I moved to the city when I was (whatever-)teen" blah blah blah stories, and he doesn't seem to have the giant chip on his shoulder either, but I want him gone, gone, gone. I am literally frightened of the collection he'd produce.

However, once he's gone, I think everyone left in the competition is going to make nice, quiet, wearable clothing, which... yawn.

Stuff in space

SGU - Did anything happen this week? Seriously. We learned some names, and Rush continued to be unhinged. Yawn.

Defying Gravity has one episode left in the first (and presumably only) season, and I'm sort of glad they didn't broadcast the rest of them in the US. Such a trainwreck. Makes me sad, because I would watch the hell out of that show if they had dialed back the melodrama by about 2/3.

And for no reason whatsoever:

Cobra Starship (half of them, anyway) being interviewed before Los Premios MTV. There is lots of Spanish, but mostly I love that Ryland has no fucking clue what's going on, and then in the middle of the interview he says "Bailamos. Let the rhythm take you over, bailamos. If I could have something on my gravestone, that's what it would be," when they're talking about how people don't sing live because they can't dance and sing at the same time. Also? Ryland is awesome.

Somehow I managed to miss Project Runway last night. I don't have the brain capacity to remember when which shows are on. I really ought to print out that table I made.

Last week, I disagreed with every decision that the judges made. )

Transformers 2 is out on DVD soon. No way am I paying for it, but I might have to Netflix it so I can rewatch Jetfire and make some screencaps.

Aaaaand, Stargate Universe reactions: Okay... )

Icon not really related except that I wish I liked any of the characters on SGU. I'll keep watching, though.

ETA: just saw xkcd. I know everyone says this comic is their life (or aspires to say that) but really. This is my life, and my nightmare. Perpetually. Also, penny arcade from a couple days ago, which is thankfully not my life anymore, but used to be, for many years.
healingmirth: Jayne from Firefly: "time for some thrilling heroics" (thrilling heroics)
I'm sort of failing at paying attention to Project Runway. Usually, I end up watching the whole season when they do the marathon before the finale, or sometimes after the finale, so its a lot easier to learn the contestants' names.

So my main insight into the competition before this week? Logan is hot. He is good at making things with his hands including clothing. I bet he cooks too. He is totally the perfect man. I totally do not blame Fatma for having an inappropriate attachment to him.

This week, my Deep and Important thoughts are: Christopher's green dress was much prettier under the workroom lights. I do not, even slightly, get Epperson's aesthetic. I am also tired of the word aesthetic.

So, I'm catching up on TV today (remember before the internet, when you actually had to record things that you want to watch two weeks later?) and it is possible that August 19th is my favorite Daily Show ever.

1) It's the episode that covers that town hall where Barney Frank gets asked about the Nazi health care policy he's supporting. In case you missed it the interesting thing is how well-prepared she is, and most of her question got cut out of the major media coverage because they cut straight to the zinger. Seriously, though, why would you put that much effort in to your question, and then decide to ask the gay Jewish guy about why he's being a Nazi?

2) It's got an interview with Tim Gunn.

3) It's got an interview with Tim Gunn where he talks about being in a Marvel comic - with Iron Man. Apparently he actually wears the Iron Man suit in the comic at some point? IDK.

I wouldn't say that I was disappointed with the Divas title, because my expectations were so very, very low, but I am totally going to go have to buy the first issue of Models, Inc.. I don't even care. Tim Gunn! Iron Man!

interview video behind the cut - probably doesn't work outside the US? and I'm too lazy to edit the embed code )

Up next? Defying Gravity or the season 3 of Slings and Arrows that's been on my desk for 3 weeks.

Oh! also, the greatest-hits episode of SYTYCD is on tonight. I'm a week behind on SYTYCD Canada, haven't watched the top 20 results yet.

I should have known you were going to pull that 4 collections bs again. Kenley is never going to learn. I don't care how "interesting" her collection would be, she is never going to learn to incorporate feedback. She says she hates everyone else's designs, and she doesn't look at collections - so she doesn't love fashion, she just loves her opinion.

I feel sorry for her, but even if she legitimately believes that her life has been sooooo difficult, and she's had to fight for everything her whole life, someone needs to teach her the lesson that fighting is not how grown-ups solve things. If you try to hand her the keys to success, you are just going to be robbing someone who would be capable of using the opportunity.
